Sound at Start-up

Recently, my 2001 1500 Suburban (5.3L) has been making a new noise on start up. For a very short time (like the first 30 seconds after I start it), it sounds like a diesel on acceleration. It only does it when I start it in the mornings. The temperatures have been cold by Los Angeles standards (in the 40's), but not by real-world standards. It seems that this started right after my most recent oil change.

 

Anyone have similar noises or know what this may be? Is it problematic? Does it sound related to the oil change or is that just a coincidence?

sounds like lack of oil to the valves. could be the viscosity of the oil is really thick, or just plain low on oil. How is your oil pressure on startup in the a.m.?(assuming it has a guage)the thicker the oil, the harder and longer the pump takes to get the oil to the valves causing the chatter that could sound like a diesel. just a guess. double check oil level also. Did you do the oil change, or a shop? possible the wrong grade of oil? Ive had a friend get her oil changed at a lube shop once. They Accidently put 80weight gear oil in her engine! blew all kinds of seals!

Don't worry about it. It is totally normal. If your truck dosen't do it then that is not normal!

If it really did start after the oil change, also check your oil filter to make sure it is the correct one (with the proper anti drainback valve). For $5, you could get the corect AC Delco filter and change it out.
