Cheekster96 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Howdy gang. I dont know how or exactly when, but my truck has been parked for a bit over a day now and I saw a small hair line crack on my passenger side mirror (it has the heated mirror option). I noticed it when I was backing up and looked twice at it, could definately see it. I got out and thought maybe it is dirty. Nope, hairline vertical crack. It has been cold up here in Maine and our roads are not the best. So, not sure if I did it or if someone knocked the mirror while it was parked. Didnt see any paint chips or scrapes on the plastic part of the mirror. This is a new truck, just turned 6000 miles. Is this something the warranty will cover (if I make the story sound good) or am I screwed? Thanks. Lee
sonjaab Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Cheek...............Check out this link and check out the pic. Many complaints and others around the net with the same problem and cracking in the same spot ! Me included ! http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=24273 The dealer should replace them for free. My dealer hemed and hawed owner abuse when I went in but I knew better and had pics off the web. That shut him up and it got fixed under warranty ! For those with this issue and NO warranty...... GM sells the replacement heated glass for around $30 bucks w/ discount. Rockauto.com sell the whole heated power mirror for less than $65 bucks !
Cheekster96 Posted February 8, 2007 Author Posted February 8, 2007 Pretty cool thread on that other site. My hairline crack is pretty much center glass and goes vertical. I will print out that thread and picture and take it with me to the dealer. Wish me luck. Lee
luthor Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Better go to your car dealer and ask them to replace it. basically it is still under warranty. Besides you don't know if it was an accident or because of the weather and your road condition. Just like my brother did when he accidentally my broke his new GM mirror... He told the truth and the dealer was very kind to replace under warranty...
RideoutKSC Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I have a cracked mirror as well but under different circumstances. Got in my truck, backed it into the garage and hit the mirror on the side of the door frame on the garage... You guys think if I call up the dealer and say hey my mirror cracked how much does it cost? Then say oh is it under warranty? But then say oh I took the broken glass off....you think they'll buy it and install a new one?!
sonjaab Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Well guys.....I smoked another set of mirrors. They quit heating again a while back and been so busy plowing snow with no time to mess with the dealer................ Anyhoo spring has finally sprung so sent it to the dealer for warranty replacement. Good ol' Mr.Goodwrench warranty service replaced both mirrors (glass only) in 1 day and had stock on hand (imagine that!)................. Heres the part #s in case ya need them: (heated mirror glass ) left 88986362 right 8898633 GM parts direct has them for $32 bucks each. Other GM parts places on the net average $40 each List price unknown................ BTW: Heres a link and pics for DIY instructions: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175712 Well I can't bit*h because thats the ONLY repair or issue I have had with this truck since new. Please note that I snowplow and heavy tow with this rig..............geo
sonjaab Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Guys........Just in case you broke the whole mirror and or NO warranty. That partstrain.com site sells the complete brand x china made knockoff power heated mirror for $77 bucks. The one with added turn signal is about $10 bucks more. NOTE: They also have the GM styles knockoff tow mirrors in both folding and/or extenders manual or power at around $400 a set.............geo

Last year I had a 2005 1500HD with the heated camper mirrors and it cracked in the winter time. Quirk Chevrolet replaced it under warranty, no questions asked.
