I would like to change the air intake system on my 2004 2500HD 6.0L. what type of air intake do you all run and did it help the MPG & horse power? i just bought this truck it has 37K miles on it.

I had a Volant on my 03 1500 and it worked well and was a very nice quality piece. I'm actually thinking about an S&B cold air kit for my 07 Classic HD (www.sbfilters.com). There are a lot of intakes out there so you'll get your fair share of info!!

I have tried these on several engines and have yet to see any real difference on a stock engine. I know there are lots of true believers out there, I'm just not one of them. It did make a cool noise though, kinda like flipping over the air cleaner cover, boy I'm showing my age...

It's the combination of an intake, exhaust and tuning and the three working together where the difference really is. This is just one step in getting a bit more out of the truck.

is there any difference betweek a standard K&N cold air intake with a cone filter... compared to the Volant box style

I'm looking to get one, I never noticed too much of a difference in my previous vehicles as fas as power.... maybe a little, but I love the sound it produces

You will notice a little difference in a new intake, but like I said the best way to get results and the most out of your truck is when it works in conjunction with tuning and exhaust. My 03 1500 really woke up after I added the exhaust and especially the tuning. I had a Superchips in my 03 and am more than likely going to get a Diablo Predator this go around.

I had a Superchips in my 03 1500 and I liked what it did for my truck. I thing this go around on my 07 HD Classic I am going to go with a Diablo Predator. I'm also looking at the S&B cold air and will probably go back to the Magnaflow exhaust like I had on my 03. Many on here will say to go with a custom tune and if you want the most out of your truck I would agree; however, I like the capability of being able to have the flexibility to change the tune or take the tune out of my truck at my discretion so for me I prefer a handheld and I think I'm giving the Diablo a go this time around.
