Introduction (and some tech articles you may like)

Hi all,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Name's Bill, I go by BillaVista, and I'm the senior tech editor over at pirate4x4.com.

There's quite a few articles I've written over the years that might interest some of you - lots of 14-boilt stuff for example.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/

I just joined the "club" as my wife bought me a 2007 Silverado 2500HD (Classic) for my birthday this January.

:)

I do have a quick initial question - I'm lookinf for an Advance or Fold-a-cover 4-panel folding hard tonneau cover (I'm set on one of those)

I've found the following prices on-line:

Truck add ons.com: 580.74

Truckstuffusa.com: 685

www.davestonneaucovers.com: 619 (free shipping)

www.amazingtruckaccessories.com: 539

www.truckchamp.com: 533.47 (free shipping)

I've read terrible reports about truck add ons.com, so they're probably out.

Has anyone any experience with the others - particularly the last two?

Thanks

Bill

Welcome to the site and I'm sure you'll have some great info for our members that are in the process of "modding" their trucks!

www.Realtruck.com (one of our sites sponsers) has several styles of fold-up covers... I don't know if they have exactly what you're looking for and how their prices compare, but if they advertise here then they are trustworthy!

Enjoy your new HD and keep us up to date on your modding progress!

BTW!!! Nice Birthday present!!!

Thanks for the welcome Shaners.

Yea - I guess most folks here aren't likely to be modding their trucks to quite the level that I did with my rock buggy.

It actually started life as a 1980 K35!!

Still - there should be some articles of interest on my page - especially if guys want to try their hand at stuff like setting up gears.

Regards,

Bill

Hey welcome aboard Bill. I've been a fan of your work for a few years now. I had my heart set on building a torque arm set-up for my HD patterned after yours but I coudn't figure out a way to make it fit without major surgery.

You'll love the truck. I like the folding bed cover idea also but I built my own out of plywood with a 2x4 frame with a piano hinge all covered in black marine carpet. It's gotten many compliments and only cost about $140 and a weekend of tinkering. I like the security along with easy acess.

I look forward to some cool home brew suspension mods coming to Pirate 4x4 for HD's. :)

Did you also check out Summit? They have that stuff to and for the most part I have never had any major problems with them. Good luck!
