Newbie saying hello! A few questions

Had a 02' F350SRW CCLB loved it, now have a 06 F250 ECSB hate it. That was after trading in my F350 in for a 05' F150, long story, but drank gas worse than anything I have ever seen. I bet it never got 8MPG. With that aside, I will be getting a GMC or Chevy HD, FOR KEEPS, this November. Already decided it will be a 3500 SRW Crew Cab Longbed, which I love. Just looks mean to me with the right tires of course. Plus I am used to driving something longer on a daily basis, so no biggie.

Now what can you guys tell me on the HD's that I might not already know about? Looks like the classics will be gone, by the time I can find one, or get one ordered. Looks like the fender flares I thought were neat, will be gone. Am not sure if there will be an option like a camper type package or something where I can get the most lift in it for stock. I drive around town and see HD pickups with a lot of wheel well room, making it look like it has a lift on it compared to the competition. Don't know if that means they have certain options I do not know about or not. I just like the looks of the back end sitting higher than the front. They just look mean that way, but for the pics I have seen so far on the new style, they just do not have that same look from the back. But have not seen a lot of pictures of these yet, so I am optimistic. Will the six speed auto be great in your views, for the 6.0? Sounded neat to me anyways.

As for colors. What do you guys know from experience from driving on gravel roads on a regular basis? I have white. Do not want it this time. I now live on a country, gravel dirt road, and it looks down right awful. I figured black or anything else could not be any worse with the way white shows off mud etc. I would like black again, but that stealth blue color is starting to come to me a little. Not a fan of gray colors, but might have to make myself like it. Red is sharp, but I think I would get tired of it after a while. The tan color is just awful to my wife, so that is out. Just can't decide on that one yet.

Duramax is out, just because of the price, and it would sit all week until the weekend before it got started, and where I live in the cold, my wife will not let our current one warm up like it should, before she goes anywhere, and don't need one anyways for what I do. If I did not have kids, I would get one. Financial future is in play with them, braces etc. I put a post on the 8.1 in another thread just to make a longer story short. I guess I will have to settle for a 6.0 motor maybe, unless they decide something for next year's. Never tow, and when I haul, it is rare, but want the room. I have to get a sunroof on my future one, or else the wife willnot drive it. I just love the looks of a woman driving a truck! Hopefully they will have reverse aid sensors like Ford does. I know the GM half tons have that option. I will give in on that one. I just might end up having to get one ordered, with those options. That would stink. Especially in winter, when I need 4X4 the most. I guess that opens another question now. How long on average does it take for an order after it is placed? I could probably have mine ordered a little ahead of time, before my lease ends? Never been in that situation before. Can't wait till you guys get your trucks, so I can see all the picutures!

On the ordering question.

Last year I order my 2006 K3500 on March 17th. Took delivery on May 5th.

Just ordered a 2007 K2500 Suburban. Dealer took order on Feb. 2nd. GM picked up the order Feb. 15th. Target Production date Feb. 27th. Should take delivery Mid-Late March.

I have a 01 2500HD with the trailering package. Decoding the RPO codes it looks like it has stiffer springs because of it. Not sure if that helps with the height or not. And the springs aren't that stiff anyway.

Maybe see if there is a snowplow option that would beef up the front suspension.

Color, silver is by far the best for hiding dirt. White and black are the worst in my opinion.

Have had red, and not too bad, but not good either.

do you plan on buying new or used? The 8.1 doesnt really get that bad of gas mileage compared the 6.0 (at least mine doesnt). You wont be dissapointed. as far as color goes I love black, and the dark blues although neither of them hide dirt well. I believe the reason for the front being lower than the rear is b/c of the torsion bars, but im not entirely sure. Good luck in finding the truck u want

Thanks! I have always bought a new truck, but reading rumors of what these new one's are going to cost with just the gas engine option, $40,000.00 just to start? I was hoping with my supplier discount I would get lower. I may be looking for a used one for the first time, just to stay in my budget. I just get scared of used. Do not need a headache not knowing how it was previously used. But at least I would say I have a 8.1! Have lots to think about.
