Pulled the trigger

Well I got a new 07 silverado on saturday. It's an ext. cab z71, 5.3 liter flex fuel, 2LT model. It's black in color, grey interior. Climate control, power bucket seats, onstar, auto trac, and all the other goodies. I bought the 1 year on turn by turn navigation and used it once to a destination I already knew how to get to. It did not send the route that I would use normally, but it definately worked great. This thing drives incredible, there is absolutely no play in the steering at all. The brakes are excellent, much better than my 04 silvy. I have not looked under the hood yet, can you remove the pcm and get a tune on the NBS vehicles? I'll try to post some pics, but I'm not too computer savvy.

Congrats on the new truck!

Thanks. I debated for a while on getting an ext. cab vs crew cab, but settled on the ext cab for more practicality for me. These new radios are confusing as heck. I was also gonna wait until the 08 model for the 6 speed tranny, but I also have a vehicle with a 5 speed auto and I really can't tell the diff. between that and my four speed auto. This trany is very smooth and shifts I would say perfectly. BTW, why do manufacturers increase the number of speeds in trannies? Would a six speed be that much noticably different than a 4 speed?

Adding an extra gear allows a manufacturer to reduce the differences in shift point gear ratios. For examply, my 2003 4.8L Silverado Ext Cab Z71 4x4 has a major rpm drop between 1-2 gears. An extra gear may allow them to reduce the difference in the ratios; keeping the engine in its optimal rpm range during all gears (max power). When I installed the 700R4 in my 80 L48 I found that if I am accelerating at anything other than mild or full throttle, the 1-2 shift would actually create a stumble (carbureator) because of the significant rpm change from 1-2. Would definitely like to see some improvement in the shift points in 2007+ before I seriously consider trading in my 2003 Silverado.

Good luck with your new truck. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do my old 00 silverado. These are really nice vehicles. I have never been a pick-up-truck guy most of my life and only bought this one because my Ford van literally blew up in Blythe (lots of smoke, no flames), Ca last year while towing my boat. I will never be without a Chevy pick-up again. My fuel mileage is great (between 18 and 19) and I squeak the tires every day. My truck has 119000 miles on it and it is an absolute joy, no problems, except parking brake, and I consider it reliable transportation and style.

I vacationed in Germany and Austria last Summer and met many great people. They ALL love America and MOST want to live here. They all want American Pick-ups. Really! They drive fairly large cars, lots of SUVs and live with the $7.00 gasoline (taxes). If 5.3 Silverados were available there, they would love them. Again, Sir, enjoy your new truck and appreciate the system that allows you to own it.
