Pictures of 03 Heavy duty

The Chevrolet was out of the question to begin with, so I was really holding out some hope for the GMC's.  But looks like it was all for not.  The light duty GMC's look good, but check out that cheap a$$ looking gap between the bumper and the grill on these trucks.  Looks like some idiot slapped a cheap body lift on a $40,000 truck.  A Superduty is getting closer and closer to showing up in my driveway.....

They don't look too bad and the chevy looks good, it's all a matter of opinion.

That gap doesn't look too good though, on a black truck you wouldn't notice as much but w/ any other color it jumps out at you.  It looks like the Durango's w/ there 1" gap between the bumpers and the body.

Doesn't that Chevy look pretty,

Seems to me that GM is fascinated with cheap plastic, and it is always black.  They are not smart enough to at least paint it the same color as the truck

I don't mind the GMC, if they would get rid of black plastic

Nope, that is as good of a picture as I can find.  I have looked at the GMC's real hard, and it really looks like just a gap.  But if there is a black bumper cap there, maybe it could be painted to match the rest of the truck?  Hopefully Mervz will have some close up pictures tomorrow....

Kyle,

I agree that those both look like $hit, especially the chevy IMO.  I just couldn't own either one, the same with the new gm half-tons.  I agree that a Superduty is a whole lot more appealing to me, and if I needed a new truck soon I would definately get one...

I'm thinking if these trucks actually do turn out to be what these pictures are, GM marketing isn't the best.  Looks like they are counting on all those buyers that are so blindly loyal to GM they won't look elsewhere.

Yes, unlike what your mama told you, looks do count for most people.  While its true inner beauty is the most important, its a lot more pleasing to look at it packaged nicely.

I am starting to like the new HDs. That pic above of the truck on the rocks looks good.

See, even Ryan is starting to come around to the new front ends

Kyle, I'm thinking its a gap again.  I looked at a close up of the half tons and it has the GMC painted to match bumper cap that molds into the bumper, so that has to be a gap.  If so that is so ugly, why would they do something like that?

I like them too!  I (as have Jon) seen the new front end of the Chevy at least in person and it looks pretty nice.

Will some (like me) buy a Chevy/GMC cause we're brand loyal?absolutley!

And like we've spoken before, GM could make them look as ugly as an A$$tek, as long as they have an unequaled gas engine and a highly competitive diesel, I don't give a rats a$$ what they look like!

You're basing your potential future purchase(s) purely on visual factors and rumored engine choices by the other manufacturer's.  That's pretty lame if you ask me.

You're basing your potential purchase of a new Dodge or ford SD because of each of their new diesels which neither has even hit market yet, so real world numbers are up in the air and of course the DuraMax has yet to prove itself (in your words).  How long does the DuraMax need to prove itself?

I guess it just bothers me that no matter what GM does, it isn't good enough.  Either it looks bad or it's diesel's aren't up to par or "proven" enough.

Also, how do you know what GM Powertrain has up their sleeves as an answer to ford and Dodge's new diesels?

Sorry, it just bugs me that you will base your purchase solely based on looks alone.

My gosh that looks hideous.  But that is not just a gap...there is a black filler plate in there.  Can you not see it?  Look above the bumper vents and you can see another set of them in the black plastic.  This is especially visible on the top pic.

CMNTMXR81,

Like it or not, most of the buying public bases their opinions on the looks of the vehicle.  Look at how the Camaro/Firebird is about extinct and the Mustang still exists....it certainly wasn't because of the Mustang's superior drivetrain.  It might have made sense to choose the an uglier truck because it had a superior motor (aka Ram Cummins vs. GM 6.5TD), but nowadays all manufacturers produce good drivetrains.  The deciding factor has now come down to appearances.

I'll agree that the black plastic looks bad.  I mean, I know GM wants to distinguish between the light duty trucks and HD's, but they should do it a bit more tastefully.  I say bring that bumper up an inch or two and remove the gap.

Yeah, that plastic filler colored the same as the bumper cap, makes it look like a really wide gap from a distance - I don't especially like it either.  Sometimes GM just doesn't seem to go for common sense in design things - and this is in the details! (But then again, maybe they didn't want it to be plain) .

Saw an '03 3/4 ton reg cab long box Silverado yesterday, right off the carrier.  I think I'll eventually get used to the front, but it's gonna take a while!  No sticker on it, and this one was a base model.  Honestly, I think they would have been better to round off the hood lines a little, better to match the rest of the truck - the GMC is better in this respect.  ???

Nope, can't see it at all.  My monitor is really dark for some reason, even after I have made all the adjustments to it that I know how to do.  So on pictures like that where something is black, I can't pick things like the vents out.  But atleast its good to hear that there is actually a filler in there, instead of a gap.  Still looks like crap though.

Well, we have discussed this same issue before.  Probably less then two weeks ago.  If you would like, I can copy and paste the 5-6 major reasons other then looks that I prefer the SuperDuty over any GM pickup.  But if you still think my reasons are lame, I don't really care.  I think the same thing about people who are so brand loyal they don't admit faults in their own brand.

btw, as far as basing purchases on rumored engine choices, you might want to know the ISBe (04 Cummins) has been available in Europe for about the same amount of time that the Duramax has been available in the GM trucks.  And the VT365 has been in production for several months now, just go down to an International dealer and test drive one.
