bossier62guy Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Lately I've noticed that I'm only getting mixed (hot/cold) air when using the first two (vent, bi-level vent) positions of my climate control. If I've got any of the last three (heat, heat/defrost, defrost) selected then I'm basically either getting hot or cold air and the hot air starts almost immediately after you move the temperature selector into the mix range. I changed the hot/cold actuator last summer. Climate control AFU? All inputs are appreciated.
bossier62guy Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 I guess I'm the only one driving a chevy truck that has experience this problem....interesting!
fossil Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Mine only blows hot. The dealer ordered up a new controller assembly which fixed the problem.
gave20 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I think after replacing the actuator you need to replace the AFU. Mine's doing the same thing, how hard is it to change the actuator.

Mine's doing the same thing, how hard is it to change the actuator. It's actually quite simple....I think I'm going to talk a friend of mine into letting me swap hers into my truck to verify that is actually the problem before I throw down the money for it though.

elbud72 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I'm looking to replace the mode selector actuator this weekend. Mine ticks like crazy. I think this is different from what you are talking about, but where are these located and what do they look like? Any tips or simple directions to follow when tackling this one? Thanks

ScottyBoy Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 My truck is having a similar problem. If I sitch it from hot air to cold, it still blows hot. It will continiue to blow hot until I shut off the truck for at least a minute or two, then it will blow cold again. What would cause this? And should this be covered by an extended warranty?

If it's doing it in all modes I would first suggest replacing the hot/cold actuator. If it's only in certain modes then u're in the same boat as I am and I'm going to try the climate control unit itself. If you have an extended warranty by all means it should be covered. Let the GM boys fix it for you for free!

I think this is different from what you are talking about, but where are these located and what do they look like? Any tips or simple directions to follow when tackling this one? Thanks where would this actuator be located, I also had a ticking noise the othe day but dismissed it as a bad blower motor. Iam also having temp control problems. Ticking is only present on real cold morning start ups around 10 degrees. thanks bob
bossier62guy Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 that ticking noise could be u're actuator trying to move....it's under the dash near the center of the truck and it's shaped kinda like a grand piano. There have been many topics concerning replacing these units so doing a search could provide you w/ more info.
elbud72 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 There have been many topics concerning replacing these units so doing a search could provide you w/ more info. I'm not having much luck finding a "how to" on this. I was just curious to know what all I need to remove to get to it, if anything. If I successfully swap it out, I'll post instructions on what I did. BTW, I have a 2003 1500HD.

You'll have to remove that black plastic cover underneath the dash on the passenger side of the truck. Mine has a couple of 7mm fasteners holding it in. After that's out of the way you should be able to see the actuator. If you have to turn the key on and move the hot/cold knob back and forth and listen for some noise to help you locate it. If you have a center console then it's going to be located at the front of that. Like I said, it kinda resembles a grand piano shape.
