I was cruising through winn dixie parking lot and all of a sudden my truck just seemed like it cut off and everything locked up and turned off and I started getting a low fuel light. I called my friend that knows alot about cars and he said it was my fuel pump because when i tryed to restart my truck it wouldnt turn over and it obviously wasnt the battery. We changed my fuel filter and it wasn't that and he said you couldn't even hear the fuel pump when I tryed to start it.

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's my fuel pump. I know the fuel pump is inside the gas tank and you have to drop your tank half way (so you don't bend your lines) to change it but hard is it to do??

Take your bed off to change the pump. Much easier and faster. All you got to do is remove the bolts that attach the bed to the frame. Make some marks on the frame with a marksolot so you can realign the bed back in its original position. You will have disconnect the fuel filler neck from the bed, usually three screws and disconnect your tail light harness. Get a blanket to cover your rear bumper, then get some help to lift the bed up and back about a foot and a half.

How hard is the actual process itself?? I mean I know the fuel pump is in the gas tank but I don't know the difficulty of this procedure but thank you for the truck bed tip I appreciate it I'm gonna do that

It's not bad at all...Pretty straightforward.

And those guys are right...Removing the bed is 10 times easier than dropping the tank. Heck, you could remove the bolts on one side, and just loosen them on the other...Then jack up one side of the bed. Might make realigning the bed a little easier. Might. But if you don't have help (to lift the bed off) then it's a good option as well.

When I changed my fuel pump I couldn't get the dang bed bolts loose? don't know why? I had to pull the tank down, which was a pain in the a$$ but once it was down it was a peice of cake to change the pump.

If the engine will not turn over, I doubt it has anything to do with the fuel pump.

If it is just your fuel pump, you should be able to crank it over like crazy. In fact, a lot of times you can have someone crank it while you beat on the tank with a rubber mallet and get the truck to start 1 (or 2) more times.

But if its not turning over and cranking, then you have other things to look at before even considering the fuel pump.

My first guess is that your alternator is bad and you were running off your battery until it died. If you know your battery is good and its not cranking then I would look at the starter.

But, I don't know why it would die after running if it were just the starter.

Give us some more info:

Does it crank/turnover?

How many volts does your battery read if you test it with a meter?

If it doesn't turn over, can you hear the starter solenoid clicking when you try to start the truck?
