4x4 question?

I have a 1992 gmc sierra extended cab and the front end wont engage in 4 wheel drive any suggestions on how to fix without a lot of expense

Most likely it's the actuator that engages the axle. They are heat activated in that era and are notorious for failing. Replacement is an electric version I believe.

If it not too late, the heat/ thermal actuators are still available and are usually a bit cheaper than the electric ones. The electric ones require an additional wiring harness which is not too difficult to install. There is a web site that shows the electric motor and the wiring harness with installation. I am going to upgrade my 97 with the 98 actuator. Almost got stuck a couple times waiting for it to engage.

check if the 4X4 fuse is blown. On the inside fuse panel.

 

I had the same problem on my bros 93 and that fixed it.
