NEED HELP change out the Passenger side airbag

Do you guys have a step by step instruction on how to replace a passenger side airbag for a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500? Also do you know where I can locate and replace the Airbag ABS module?

Um...sorry buddy but I don't think you are going to get too many responses on this one...I am sure most of the responses will be people that think you are out of your mind for even thinking about trying this yourself. Can you help me understand why you need to "change it out?" Is the old one blown?

I have an airbag and module from an 04 Tahoe. It is very simple to replace. I know you can swap some parts on these vehciles but i am not sure of the airbag. Can you send me a picture of what the airbag looks like?

This is more generic Airbag information and not specific for GMT-800. The first step I would do if I absolutely had to this myself for budget reasons would be to call up and talk to a tech at a collision repair shop to ask about how they go about doing this.

 

Now here are a few pointers, when you're replacing the airbag module you want to make sure that a) the battery is disconnected, b) you are grounded to the vehicle so you don't build up any static charge (airbags are explosives), c) get the wiring connected up asap.

 

I don't know the specifics of a delphi airbag ECU but in general you should be able to reset the crash event and have the module reconfigure itsself. If its doable it'll have to be done by somebody with a Tech2. In general there are enough variations in airbag controllers over the course of a model year, much less cross years, that if you did need to replace it you might even have to go as far as order it based on your vin number.
