How To Remove Window Visors

my passenger side window visor started to come off the other day, they are the GM ones that stick on, and i am wondering what is the best way to remove them. i would like to replace them with the ones that go in the window channel. someone suggested a heat gun, but i thought that might strip the paint. maybe a hairdryer?

A heat gun or hair dryer is your best bet and will not affect the paint,

as long as you don't overdo the air temperature.

so a heat gun with adjustable settings on it will be fine? probably shouldnt hold it that close or in the same spot for very long though right? would a hair dryer produce enough heat to get the tape off? i guess i will try the hair dryer first so i dont have to go out a buy a heat gun unless i need it.

You can also use WD-40 to losen the glue while using the heat gun. Squirt some on let it soak in and use the heat at the same time. The WD-40 will also remove the sticky glue resin left behind, wipe it off with a soft cloth, it will not damage the paint. Wash with soap and water when done.

i ended up just pulling them off and then pulling the big pieces of glue off. then i used wd-40 to remove the excess glue off. i washed it afterwards. it worked really well thanks for all the input.

I actually just posted a topic about this.

 

A heat gun wont strip the paint, i've used it on vehicles before to remove letters.

 

Just don't hold it too close, or on for too long.

Too cool! I went to WWW.StreamlinDesign.com and ordered stickers sized just right to cover those things up! They say Sierra in silver on charcoal. They have tons of colors and cut them for your year and make. $15!! What an improvement! And you don't have to peel off the factory ug stickers.
