How To Tell If Sierra Had Plow Installed?

Recommended Posts

Hello ...

I'm looking at a used 2004 Sierra and wanted to know if there were any tell-tale signs that a plow was used/installed. I posted about the pre-purchase inspection but thought it would be best to start a new thread.

I looked at the Western website and it said that the bumper would require notching. Well the bumper isn't notched so I'm in the clear there (if that is true).

Thanks for any and all info!

OK ... I'm trying to avoid having my wife kill me. Apparently she doesn't share the same enthusiasm for the whole truck acquisition project.

Anyway, I went over to the dealer's lot and took at look at the area where I thought a plow would mount. I took some pictures and was wondering if somebody could take a look at them to see if all is normal.

On the underside of the frame towards the front bumper there is a factory hole with a rectangular mark around it. The rectangular mark has curved ends. All the trucks in the lot had these marks and some at another lot did. I can't believe that this has anything to do with a plow mount. Maybe for strapping them down on the car carrier. Who knows?

Anyway, if there is a way I can post pictures or provide a link that would be good.

I'm sure I'm worried about nothing (like always).

Thanks!

If you want to post pictures, you'll need to upload them to another site and then use the "[/img]" tags to link the photo in.

photobucket.com is one such free photo posting site.

Here are some pictures.

Picture one is the outside of the frame towards the front. Both right and left look the same.

Picure 2 is the inside of the frame towards the front. Again, both sides are the same. The hole circled in red on picture 1 doesn't go the whole way through the frame.

The final pic is the underside of the frame. I looked at several other trucks on that lot and another that had the same thing.

Thanks again for all the help!!

From what I can see in your pictures it does not appear that it had a plow attached. Fisher plows are attached where the tow hooks are attached and the hole further up on the bottom of the frame.

Thanks!

LOL

I was tempted to print that out but I don't think it would be in my best interest!

Anymore opinions on the plow? Can you tell I'm anxious?

Thanks again!

TS....It doesn't appear that a "mounting carton" aka a push bar has

ever been on that truck. Its 3 years old now and if it was a plow

rig you would notice extra bolt holes as well as rub marks on the

frame horns...................

There would also be severe rust on the exaust manifolds and

oxidation on the engine and other underhood areas of the

truck from snow and salt spray.....................

My 04 has all of this............................

Check out this link of a pic of a push bar and how it would mount:
