After reading all I could about the exhaust topic I just replaced the stock Muffler with a DI/ DO Flowmaster and I think it turned out ok!!! I was worried about the noise levels and it gave it just enough without any extra interior noise. Anyone else done just the muffler on their truck? Now I am looking for the next improvement any suggestions?

I hear ya... (no puns on words). It's raining here now in Ottawa, but the 4-6 inches of snow was a bit of a surprise this morning.

Which Flowmaster model did you go with?? I have used them in the past but the 2200-3000 rpm drone got to be a killer...

I am looking for something that sounds good, not too loud and one that won't PO the wife when I am towing a trailer up a big hill...you know, with the foot on the floor and the engine rapping like crazy and the wife complaining about how obnoxious the exhaust is...

Go with a bullet for your exhaust. It's straight through and it has no drone down the highway but sounds mean as all can get out when you stomp it. My wife loves it. She says it sounds strong and mean but not aggravating.

Gotta keep her happy!!!

Hell yes! A Dynomax Bullet sounds incredibly mean!

I looked into those when I was putting an exhaust on mine. I ended up going with a true dual setup with 2 goerlich XLerator mufflers. I had never heard of them, but my muffler shop said they liked them a lot, and goerlich claimed a deep mellow tone. I wouldnt go as far as calling it mellow, because you definetly hear it in the cab, but I absolutely love the tone it gave me!

I agree totally.... its enough to turn heads when cruising but even on long hauls with my family with the camper in tow it is tolerable

Hilltophunter, is your truck a 6.0 or an 8.1? I wanted to put an exhasut on my 8.1, but wanted to check with someone else thats done this before I go ahead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put flowmasters on my 2001 2500 HD just after it was new and are still running good at 105,000 miles. I do not remember the Model but i can check if you are interested. i know that it their premium line and not the very loudest, but still plenty of good engine noise and really does sound awesome.
