Black Bowtie Emblem

Recommended Posts

Does anyone make a black overlay for the bowtie emblems? I would really like one for my HD, it would look pretty good with my paintjob, but I have had no luck finding any. Would it be worth getting another emblem for a project and painting it?

Painting would be one easy way. Another would be to use black contact paper.

Probably wouldn't have much trouble finding another emblem at a salvage yard.

Thanks for the replies. I have been checking ebay constantly but haven't found one for a large Silverado emblem. The black contact paper idea sounds pretty interesting. If I paint it my plan is to sand it lightly and prime & spray paint black a couple times then clear it a couple times, hopefully it will work out and be nice & shiny.

I painted my factory bowtie a while back. I lightly sanded it to allow for a better bond, ran a couple coats of automotive spray primer, several coats of black and several coats of clear coat. It didn't come out as smooth as I would have liked, but it looked good. The only problem I had with it is that anytime I took a small piece of road debris, it would chip or leave a divot in the paint. I finally got tired of re-sanding and painting that I finally bought a billet bowtie and have been running that ever since.

oh so painting isn't really the best method? i'll give it a try for kicks though, i'm not gonna use my trucks original though incase I mess up lol. I could probably get one of those billet emblems powder coated black too.

I think I am going to try smoking it heavilly them clearing it, rather than painting, we shall see how it goes..

I thought I would drop by this old thread & post my new blacked out emblem :flag:

I removed it and sprayed it with 9 layers of vht nightshades spray tint, that sounds crazy I know lol but d**n it looks great! I clearcoated it 3 times, polished it up, and waxed it 3 times, and its slick & smooth and looks great. Here are some pics. I also did my door & tailgate emblems with it, and I smoked my taillights and brakelight with it, and it turned out very well! Right now i'm debating weather to do 1 light layer on my headlamps, I dont know if I will or wont, but i'm gonna wait until I have the billet grills to make up my mind.
