I plan to smoke my stock '05 taillights soon and am just wondering, I dont want them very dark, just lightly done almost like 30% tint, just to blend with the body a little bit. Is there any specific brand I should look for? I have found all kinda of random sprays on summit and ebay. If anyone has done this before do you have any advice for a guy whos never done this before? thanks

couple photoshops before & after what I want it to look like.

also, I would like to do this to my headlamps, but will that cut down on the beam length if I do that even lightly? thanks

I did my tails. I went with VHT nightshades. I also learned that you could possilble use window tint spray for model cars. Clear coat after your done. Also, do not scuff the lense at all, as this paint does not fill in any defects. Prep with alcohol or a paint prep, then spray. wait a few in a dust free area, then CC. Or do a google search for blackout lenses. Lots of stuff there. Any way, do not touch the lense until it dries. I had to polich mine out after they were done to get them nice and shiny. I masked out the backup light as I wanted to keep that clear/white.

oh ok, so its not so much of a hard job, I just dont want to overspray one area and have dark spots in it. I never was good with spraypainting either so I just worry about goofing up.

take them off, prep, and start spraying before and after in one continuous pass, repeat to cover entire lense. One to two coats of VHT is all you`ll need. Go with three if you want them dark like mine. VHT does not reccommend going for four coats, it is spelled out on the back of the can. Two sounds about right for ya though. Good Luck. If ya screw them up, there is always Ebay!!! HAHA

ok, i'm going to give the smoking a try. Hope it goes well haha.

I dont really want to go with blackout covers because they could be ripped off and stolen, and I would want a more perminant dark out job done to them. I have 1 more question though, we have harsh winters in north P.A, so is there a chance that close to near 0 degree temperatures could ruin my taillights? or as long as the clearcoat holds up I should be all good?
