99 Suburban--new Gm Crate Engine

Hi All, I have a friend with a 99 Suburban w/ 145k miles. He was getting 5-10PSI oil pressure out of his ride at highway speeds. Changed sending unit and main bearings w/no luck. Had a garage hook up direct reading gages as far as rpm and oil press, and it was truely bad. He bought a new GM 350 long block for $2500 and put it in this weekend. He comes to me today and says when he and his friend mated the eng/tranny the oil sending unit connector got in between the eng/tranny and is trapped in the bell housing! He didn't realize it until he was about to fire the engine up. His friend said since it was plastic, he should just clip the wires and put on a new plug (he reasoned the old plug is plastic and if it gets caught in the flywheel it wont hurt anything). I just about soiled myself! I told him that even thought it REALLY sucks, he needs to get that connector out of there. What do you guys thingk? Am I right? or is he right?
