'95 K1500 with the 5.0L 305 has the Service Engine Soon light come on when its at idle but goes off once you start moving. My code reader only scans 96 and newer. Anyone every heard of this problem before or have any ideas??? Thanks...

Some of the part chain stores will scan trouble codes for free.

 

I think there are too many things it could be to just start throwing parts at it without figuring out what trouble code is being stored.

Some cars were OBDII compliant before 1996, it's worth trying it. Also, as was mentioned, most parts stores will loan you a scanner for free. If they don't have one available to loan for that specific year, you can buy one for $20-$30. That would probably be cheaper than taking it to a dealer to diagnose, or starting to just throw parts at it.
