Ignition Noise Through Radio

I just got this '00 S10, and it's got what seems to be ignition noise through the radio. It's only present when the engine is running. It's sort of a pop, pop, pop noise that varies with engine speed. I had to replace the alternator today, and while the belt was off I cranked the truck to make sure that it wasn't the alt that had been making the noise, and it was still there. The noise is worse on weaker stations, but can usually be heard on any of them. The radio is the stock Delco unit, CD playback is fine (no noise), and seems to pull in the stations as well as the one in my '00 silvy did, just has this noise. What should I check? Does this sound like an ignition problem or radio problem?

Any help would be great, Thanks.

Start by checking the plugs and wires, they are the most likely cause of radio interferance.

I had this on my 98 Silverado and it was a warning the Alt was nearing end of life. Brush wear I think was the reason. Too bad I did not check it before it went out. Load the Alt up with lights and A/C and check your voltage. Also put a long screwdrive on the Alt itself and listen for bearing noise by putting your ear on the screwdriver handle.

i have had similar problems with other types of radios (cb, ham, etc) and first thing i checked is the ground. make sure you have excellent grounds.

i agree with ryank1, if your wires are bad or have a bad connection you will experience this issue. have you tried to see if it is worse on AM as opposed to FM? usually AM is more suseptable to electrical noise.

I am getting the same thing in my 2001 Silverado 2500 HD 8.1 and no one tell me why. I have noticed that it is at its worst when driving next to high power lines.
