For starters my mom has a 2003 lt auto ride suburban!, Okay heres the situation!, We went to the sox game the other night, and we were driving up I-80, I-57/dan ryan expressway and it seemed as if overtime i would hit a small discrepancy in the road ie: a small bump rut, the truck steering felt really free and almost like it was jerking to the right, she has never had this issue before but just recently its been more frequent, (she barely ever drives on the highway) she had a new set of tires put on and they were properly rotated and the truck was aligned!

give me your opinions! what do you think this could be caused bye? low tire pressure, steering issue???

your ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

nobody else has had any issues with their steering, where the wheel literally yanks almost out of your hands when you hit a simple bump? :ughdance:

OMG! I thought I was crazy until I read this -- my 03 LT w/autoride has been doing the steering wheel jerk since I first bought it (used). It is very scary! We thought maybe it was the tires, too. Had those replaced, and had the guy check the steering. I was told then that the Steering Wheel Position Sensor was bad. I took it to a dealer -- they couldn't find anything wrong, even with a road test. I think they repacked the steering column, but the wheel still jerks, almost always on curves. Please let me know if you ever solve this issue.

Secondly, we have had problems with the autoride suspension and have had the compressor replaced twice (not cheap)! The dealer replaced it the first time, but the second time we replaced the part ourselves. I brought the burned up compressor back to the dealer. They were surprised (and gave me $100 off the cost of a new compressor), and told me that there must be a leak somewhere to cause the compressor to burn up like that. We now agree there is a leak somewhere, but new shocks dealers cost is almost $500 a piece! Does anyone have any suggestions??? Is this a do-it-yourself job?

Thank you

Also, FYI, in 2006, there was a recall on the front wheel speed sensor (corrosion) which the dealer handled for us. But this didn't fix the steering wheel jerk either.

its very odd, i cannot for the life of me figure out what it is, we've been through two sets of tires(not due to this issue) and with both sets and various psi's we still cant figure it out, we're supposed to be taking it to Virginia beach for about 10 days so i think we're gonna bring it in before we leave, if i find anything out I'll keep you posted!! i feel a little more at ease now knowing i'm not the only one in the world that has experienced this!

I typed "steering" into the keyword box -- I found one thread that sounds similar to what we are experiencing. An EVO (Electric Variable Orifice) sensor was suggested to remedy the problem (post dated 1/8/07 by Chris97K1500). Check it out.

swalsh this could very well be our problem, i think i'm going to run up to the dealer tomorrow and see what they think, and for 40$ what the heck i'll do it myself, i'll keep you posted
