Question About Air Conditioning Control

I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic, 4.8L. I found a strange problem in the air conditioning control. I started the A/C by pressing the Snowflower button and the In-circulate button left next to the Snowflower button to help cooling. After a while I felt it was cool enough and wanted to close the A/C to save gas. I pressed the Snowflower again shutting it off the left the In-circulate button on. My intention is to blow out the cool air by leftover of coolant in the compressor. But it seemed the A/C did not shut down and it kept blowing out the cool air. THe only way I shut it down is to close the fan completely. By doing that I could not get economy by early shut down of the A/C. This phenoumenon is not following what the manual book tells. Is it a malfunction to be fixed?

I have a 2007 Silverado with the same set up as you are describing except it is the new body style, and have had the same prediciment. I believe the reason you still felt cool air blowing was just the lower temp of the air passageways as well as the residual "cool" being blown into your cabin by the fan. I have found the snowflower button does not have anything to do with the AC being on or off, but only whether you want to cool the air coming through.

 

Try turning your airspeed knob all the way to the left where you will see a circle with the center missing (this should denote off). However I myself have found that when the air-in button is selected, a small amount of air still is forced into the AC from the vehicle moving forward (I have yet to try this stationary to disprove my theory though). However, If you were to turn the knob all the way to the left, as well as select the button which only circulates the air within the cabin instead of the button which brings the fresh air from the outside, I found my AC shut completely down. I hope this helps.
