07 Nbs Problems

OK, here is the long story short. My uncle bought an 07 Sierra and after 1 winter the frame is rusted quite a bit. Also, his Active Fuel Management is not working properly because he is only getting ~13 mpg. Has anyone else had this problem? He is having a hard time getting GM to do anything. What do you all think he should do?

well I haven't got a winter on mine yet so cant help ya there but my 5.3 crew cab NBS is only getting 13.5 mpg so says the DIC....

These are still trucks with big V8's, you can't be expected that the AFM will suddenly make them get 25 mpg. It's helping but there is only so much it can do. My Vmax gets 14 mpg and the AFM is definitely working. I'd be interested to see what it gets without AFM.

 

And the frames on these trucks are steel, they will rust. The factory protection is just a wax coating that'll come off quite quickly. What I do with all of my trucks is pressure wash the coating off the frame then respray it with an extremely durable, flat black, rust protection spray paint. It'll do wonders.

Mine has been stuck on 14.1mpg from day one and I have 2,300 miles on it, mostly highway. Plus I have been babying the truck thus far.... So much for 16 mpg on the highway.

The AFM is just a stupid meaningless gimmick that is a lot more headache than it is worth. Theoretically it can save some money, but in reality it does absolutelty nothing for lead foot drivers who opt for the biggest available engine and the lowest gearing they can get. And even for conservative drivers, the fuel savings due to AFM are not that great. And the fact that the system cannot be deactivated by normal means makes it a very unattarative proposition for some future buyers like me.

My dealer said undercoating the truck voids the warantee. You might want to check that...

According to the law, any modification you make to the truck needs to be a cause of the failure.

Everything seems to be fine with mine. Average is around 16 mpg with 60% highway. I don't baby it and I don't drive the hell of it either! My girlfriend has a '07 Tahoe with over 46,000 with no problems and my mom just bought a new one and it seems to be the same.

I'm averaging 17 with 50-50 highway/city.

 

The AFM rarely kicks in if you're over 65 in my experience. It's far more useful in the 45-55 range, which has been a mild motivation to obey the speedlimit

 

More importantly, I've never felt as though I had lost power as a result of AFM. I didn't expect much in the way of fuel mileage in the first place.

I'm with Shane, I'm averaging 16.5 to 17 mpg on my commute which is about 50/50 city/highway driving. While I'm on the highway, AFM kicks in a fair amount, even at 70 mph. Since adding the Edge and a bottle of 104 Octane Boost to my tank of 87 octane, I'm seeing it run on V4 more than before, and it's crept up to 18 mpg on my commute. That will be shot to #ell this weekend pulling our travel trailer, but I'm still interested in seeing how well it does with the Edge Tow Tune installed.

Paul, does the Edge programmer remove any of the Torque Management? It sucks having a 367HP 6.0L V8 under the hood and not being able to use it on demand!
