Electrical Problems

1999 Silverado Z71 4x4, 5.3, GMT800, 129K

 

Took my truck in for VA state inspection today and to my suprise...it failed due to no headlights.

 

The headlights were working fine to my knowledge (drove it 2 nights ago no probs). Now, when the headlights are on, and you try to activate the highbeams, the headlights turn out (high and low beams) and the TBC fuse blows. If the engine is running, the TBC fuse for the body control module blows and the Security light on the DIC illuminates. Same symptoms if the engine is off, except the secuity light does not illuminate solid.

 

Once I replace the TBC fuse, the headlights work fine as long in the low beam mode, and there are no other discernable problems.

 

The inspection house suggested I replace the multifunction switch for $350+labor. However, he could not assure me this would solve the problem. Thats a lot of money to spend for a "not sure".

 

Appreciate all replies in advance. Need my truck inspected and my headlights back.
