Gto Kill.... Wtf?

So I'm like on my way home from work (after 25 hours on the clock) and I don't really feel like waiting for traffic or stoplights so I'm not really thinking when I toast this new blacked out GTO sitting next to me. He flashes his lights at me and pulls up beside me at the next stoplight and hear him give it a few revs. So I'm like what the heck (on my mind are my tires at the tread wear markers, and the fact that I'm running a bone stock 6L hauling almost 3 tons of surburan around) and punch it on green. I'm not even to 5k and he's already in my rearview.

WTF?

Are those things really that gutless?

(or maybe a bodykit on a prix?... though for the price of a kit I'd think the GTO would be affordable)

WOW - in a Suburabn no less...

Something was amiss.

My neighbor has a 6.0 GTO and it holds its own against a new Z06 in a rolling start very well. The Z06 is faster but it is a pretty good contest. Somebody was sleeping for sure.

Don't under estimate a youngster with a new toy from his parents huh?

I have a friend with a "slightly" modified '01 Camaro SS with an LS1 that will glue your head to the rest from zero to about 110 but he has to launch gingerly, so I guess it makes sense.

Bryan, the other replies are right, these GTOs may not have the "pizazz" in the looks dept like the late 60 and earl 70 models did, but you do not want to mess with one. My guess is he was just wanting to see you burn your gas.

I can tell you without hesitation that he either wasn't racing or did a bad job of it. I've driven several GTO's in the last couple of weeks, and they will leave my SS in the dust. And I run about a 13.9.

0-60 on the '05-'06 is around 4.6 or so with a decent driver.

13 second car, driver couldnt drive or didnt care to race. The Independed rear kills that car, if it had a live axle and slicks or DR's for that matter it would turn SOLID 12's stock. If you look at the MPH and not the ET, you will see the MPH is a 12 second speed....... GTO's are bad ass, gm just chose handling over launching capability, wich is what most people want. Just like the 03-04 cobras wich are just MONSTERS. There is a local guy that has a 04 cobra with a live axle swap and a AOD swap with a loose converter, thing FLYS!!!

I totally dominated one the other day a stoplight... he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

I wish. Those things are quick! I don't care for them however, they look too much like a rice burner. Kind of an insult to it's muscle car ancestors IMHO.

An insult to what? A Le Mans? 40 some-odd years ago, they took a family hauler and put a big honkin' motor in it. That's EXACTLY what happened this time around and I think they hit the nail on the head with it. It looks like a nice Cavalier to some...To others, it looks pretty nice. While I really like the way the Charger SRT-8 and the new Mustang GT look...I prefer a more conservative look...Less "in your face" designs appeal to me more. Walk softly and carry a big stick and all that

Oh, and stock for stock? The new GTO's will flat WAX the old ones in both the 1/4 and on the skidpad while getting high 20's in the MPG area on the highway.

I'll second that, But I still wouldn't mind having one. Light, short wheel base, gobs of power. What more can you ask for? Not like anyone is making anything that looks much better now.

You U.S. bastards get all the cool cars.....we cant buy them here in Canada. It's total BS. I think they're bringing the 6.0L G8 here though.

Aren't they also heavier than the original GTO's?
