Rear Back Up Camera

i purchased and installed an audiovox license plate rear back up camera on my 07 nbs silverado. very simple straight forward install. rca cable for video, constant power, acc. power, ground, and tap lead for reverse lights. i tapped into the green wire for the reverse lamps at the lamp. when i put the truck in reverse the picture comes on like it is supposed to. when not in reverse pic goes off. However, every now and then when i press my brake while in drive the back up pic will flash on. the video feed will not stay on even if you remain on the brakes, it will only flash briefly. any ideas on how to fix this or why this is happening are appreciated.

Does the power run through a relay?

no. according to the directions it does not need to. ???

You may need to use a diode. I'm not usre what polarity your trigger wire is but if you read here:

you can find out how to diode isolate the trigger wire.

Hmmm... Since the relay answer is "no" and cant see the wiring diagram, I assume it has a relay built into the camera(From how you are stating it is wired). I would say the camera is defective. I would contact the manufacturer(Audiovox) and see what they would have to say. The above diode method could work, but I assume the camera would have something like this already built into it.

It seems to me, if you are only wired into the backup lights, and the camera comes on when you step on the brakes, there's a short somewhere.

 

But you mention.... constant power, acc. power.... what are those hooked up to?

And what are you grounded to?

i have one rca cable for picture. one constant power wire, one accessorie power wire, one ground, and then one reverse lamp wire (to tap into rear lamps). nothing should be shorted out everything is run through loom. all connections are soldered and have shrink. i thought that mabey since gm sometimes uses the same wires for multi functions i might be getting some kind of surge that temp illuminates back up image. ????

I just got a 2005 Sierra Denali and am wanting to upgrade to the NAV system, AND a rearview cam...

Will-or can-the cam integrate into the NAV system?

I have the Y91 and am planning on getting a NAV system from EBAY to install and a license plate cam..
