'01 Autoride Shocks/non Load Leveling

Both rears are rattling and driving me nuts, 100,600 miles on em and I want to replace all 4. I have heard Monroe makes a replacement, but is it a electronic shock like the OEM Delphi? Where can I purchase these for the least $$$. I have been hearing $200.00-$300.00 apiece......

Thanks

Last time I looked, Monroe was less expensive than the OEM Delphi's, and they are supposed to be Autoride electronic replacements. GM refers to the system in the repair manual as RTD, for Real Time Damping (not to be confused with the auto-leveling air system on the 1500's, which is also called AutoRide).

Part numbers (for my '01 Suburban anyway) are Monroe 40035 (Front) and 40036 (rear). Best prices I have found are online at Rock Auto. According to their catalog, Fronts are AC/Delco 580222 at $353.79 vs. Monroe 40035 at $273.89, Rears are AC/Delco 580223 at $405.79 vs. Monroe 40036 at $255.79.

This means you save $459.80 on a set of Monroes vs. AC/Delco.

I have 85K miles on my Suburban with the Autoride system, and my big question is how do I know when it's time to replace these shocks? Nobody I talk to can give me an idea of how long these things are supposed to last. Dealer says to keep going until the "Service Ride Control" message comes on. I'm not in a hurry to shell out $1200 for shocks, but I'm guessing they'll need to be replaced at some point.

I do not know what happened to the above post by myself.......everything but the quote is missing!

Burbman, The autorides are supposed to last 125.000-150,000 miles as I read somewhere. My buddy and best man located me a set today at a GM warehouse thru his job, front and rears for $876.10, yea thats 4 Delphi's, unbeleivable! Most people I've heard are replacing them with non electronic shocks. I am really happy with the way the Delphi's worked and how long they lasted. I beat the crap out of my truck on the south shore beaches a couple of times a week. Two times a year we rent a house on the Outerbanks NC....its 8 miles to the house from the pavement! Last June I logged over 120 miles of rough sand in one week. I love my truck man, 3/4 ton like driven on a cloud, why lose that ride with aftermarket shocks!

Burbman do ya fish?

That's an awesome deal! I agree, GM did a great job with AutoRide, except for the cost of the shocks....I will replace with either AC/Delco or Monroe when the time comes. I want to keep the system functional.

Yes, I fish, and yes, I've already killed both rear Ride Control Sensors from the sand....$325 each....

I just want to clarify this statement. Both the 1500 and 2500 Autoride systems (RPO Z55) are identical except for two things. The 1500 has the additional Auto leveling feature with the air pump and the 1500 also has an extra RPO Code (ZK3) which integrates the EVO for your steering into the system. The Autoride for the 2500 does not involve the EVO. Personally, I think this system sucks and I'm in the process of removing it from my truck and replacing the shocks with Bilsteins at a cost of $276.00 for all 4. I will never have to worry about getting raped by GM for any parts for anything to do with autoride.

I agree i just got a price of 4 rancho 9000 i think for $148. Ive had 9 gm trucks in my life and never had autoride so i dont think im going to miss it, trucks are meant to ride like trucks.

Just for your FYI there are a few threads on the autoride/autolevel shocks around here. One is specific on how to defeat the service autoride message as well as the whole system if switching to regular shocks..................

Heres a post from back in March for replacement autoride

shocks for $199 each. Maybe they are still available?

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
