hulbert Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I have a friend that just purchased a Dodge Ram QC 4wd with a 4.7L. He claims it will hold right with my truck. (05 Silvy 5.3, 2wd, eclb) Just from reading horsepower and torque ratings I don't see how. Does anyone know what I'm up against?

It did have the manual tranny and that helped alot, but in all honesty the only race he'd win against you would be to the gas station. I think your 5.3 will hold up very nicely thank you.

Thanks, my buddy's truck is an automatic and he is kind of known for over-exaggerating the power of everything he owns. Would it even be worth my time or gas?
BigJayDogg3 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Doubt it. Even with the current engene dodge has, the 5.3 will still give the Dodge a run for it's money. They are just too heavy.
Rocco715 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I have a 01 Dakota with the 4.7L with exhuast/tune/intake/TBS/chip and that thing moves. but it also is 1000# lighter than a full size. a 4.7L in a full size, I think not.

Yeah I had a 2000 Durango with the 4.7L and full-time 4WD. The thing did move fairly quickly for the low horsepower/weight ratio it had. It only had 230hp I think, but in a full size truck I imagine it's pretty slow. The 5.7L Hemi does tear ass, though, too bad the Dodge trucks feel so cheap. The engine's just about the only good thing about them. Well, and I kind of like the stock 20" wheels on some of them. I wouldn't trade my 07 Sierra for a Dodge, Ford, Nissan, or Toyota though. I think most of us here have given the competition a chance and decided we liked the GM products best, though nobody is perfect.
hulbert Posted September 6, 2007 Author Posted September 6, 2007 I agree, I think there's at least one good thing about all the trucks but GM figured out how to put more then one good thing in one package. I've driven almost all of them and there's a good reason I choose silverado. Also, I would love to put my buddy to shame with my 5.3!
hulbert Posted September 6, 2007 Author Posted September 6, 2007 I'm going to assume that a dodge 5.7L would definitely take my 5.3 stock to stock?
Mark_in_Tulsa Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I'm going to assume that a dodge 5.7L would definitely take my 5.3 stock to stock? That depends on a lot. Gearing, body style, year....etc On the Dakota forums those guys have got a lot of power out of those 4.7 with mods. A stock Dakota 4.7 stick would beat a Dakota 5.9 RT. The low end TQ and TQ curve is pretty impressive in the 4.7. It just lacks high end HP for racing. I've seen 4.7 Rams pull some heavy load with very little struggle for a small V8. But you have more TQ and HP, and you are lighter than he is. You will smoke him.
04silverado1500 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 i beat a stock 04 dodge with a 5.7L but i think it might have had the 3.55 rear end (if thats there mid gears) i dont think it had the 3.92s. i have whats stated in my signature and my rear end is a 3.73
hulbert Posted September 6, 2007 Author Posted September 6, 2007 Thanks all. It's always better to know what you're getting into before you get there. This buddy says that his 2000 suzuki bandit motorcycle has 100+ hp. What a laugh!!! He told me his dodge had 290hp and 300tq stock. He's a good guy but you take it with a grain of salt.

Did your tuner make that big of a difference??

Did your tuner make that big of a difference?? I've taken out a hemi ram although it was a QC and it was very close. Now with my tune, CAI, thermostat I think I could give a titan and a tundra a good run. The 5.9 is a turd....wow I remember a friend of mine I absolutely destroyed. Great towing motor though!
04silverado1500 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 yea it helped he had a quad cab though and he was stock so but yea i beat him fair and square no re-runs he felt that if we went again he wouldnt be able to beat me
