howdy, its been a while since i posted here and now iam looking at getting another hd,found a 02 with a 6.0 4x4 in excellent cond. but it has 112000 miles but it appears not to have been worked much,is this mileage something to consider on this truck or has everyone been getting good service out of these trucks beyond this mileage?i will only be driveing this truck for leisure and pulling a 24 ft camper from time to time, what are some of the things i need to pay attention to when looking at this truck?thanks rick

Sure, go ahead and consider it but base your choice on a clean CARFAX report, lots of service records along with the price. Take a serious deduction for the mileage. 22400+/- miles per year is extreamly high. I'd try to find something lower unless this one is being given away.

American average is between 10-14k miles per year. Anything over 15k per year is considered high mileage. Over 20k per year is extreamly high.

I have just over 100,000miles on my 2002.....mostly highway. Still runs like the day I bought it.

I'm hoping to put another 100,000 on it.

Here's how I look at it...

Never pay "what it's worth" for a truck over 80-100k. You can find a deal on one if you look. Just because it looks pretty doesn't mean "it's worth" what a book says. It's worth what someone will pay for it. If I had all the money for what my stuff "is worth," I'd be a rich man. Unfortunately I just have the stuff. As a wholesaler by trade, I wouldn't pay more than $2000 less than book for something like that-look around and you can find a deal like that.

I would agree looking for a truck with those miles sounds like a good idea for you because it sounds like you are not going to drive it much anyway. If that's that case, try to get a high mileage newer truck instead. Look for ads with what seem to be extremely low prices and its usually because of high miles. You can find deals on even 04-06's with 80-100k if you look hard enough. Anything that new with those miles must have highway miles-there's no other way to put that many on a vehicle that fast. Highway miles usually = parts not worn out. Plus newer trucks generally have more stuff on them. Lastly, CARFAX is a must.
