Ipod Options? Nbs Silvee

So recently after having my truck a couple days I've been trying to find a good spot to put my Ipod. I was dissapointed that GM does'nt offer Ipod control on my particular head unit but I was glad that I could listen to at least, having gotten rid of most of my CD's. Anyway, without control of the Ipod through the stereo the Ipod must be out to control it, but it also does'nt charge the d**n thing so the charger has to be out as well. So right now I got about 1 ft of cord wrapped up right on my center cosole and I'm trying to figure out a better way.

I'm not sure if anyone has figured out a better way to do it, or if theres some sort of option I can get that can control the Ipod through the stereo and charge it at the same time. If that's not an option I'm wondering what you guys do, there is just a mess of cords and looks terrible, but I gots to have some music! :(

Thanks guys.

I have a NBS Sierra w/o XM, I initially just plugged into the jack on the front of the stereo but I didn't like it all the wires. I bought the Pheripheral PXDP3 (which came with the adapter harness) online and had it installed professionally for about $15. The installation took about 10 minutes for them to do.

I like it because it charges and gives me steering wheel and stereo control of the iPod. I had them run the iPod to my glovebox without drilling any holes in the glovebox itself. The eBay seller that I bought it from has them available for about $150.

I am new to ipod, and love it. got a nano (older style 6 months ago), just because it had like 30hrs battery life. I velcro it to the upper left hand side of the center console, so it's basically right behind my shifter in drive, works pretty well. lasts months without a charge, cause i still mostly listen to XM.

I too wanted touch screen control, and charging, and put the ipod away, through my nav unit, bought a coastal electronics unit that said it did it, but it didn't work well, just couldn't get to songs or artists that i wanted. it may have just been mine cause the guy i bought it from said it should work great, we tried to troubleshoot it a little, but in the end i sent it back.

GM keeps saying they are coming out with an ipod interface, and you know it will work well, so i'm just waiting for it, or i'll stick with current setup.

Does this also charge the Ipod while you use it? Does you turn on the Ipod by pressing the cd/aux button?

That's what the salesman told me when I bought my truck too, I just don't know how long I can wait to see if something comes out. I'm a total Ipod fan, I used to carry arround giant books of CD's and now I have just my Ipod which is great. I wish I got that much battery life out of mine, mine will only run about a day before its dead.

i upgraded my factory radio to an alpine CD ... and have my ipod sitting in a cubby hole where i don't have to reach it (the deck controls everything on it) ...

heh i could even run the cable over to the glove boxes and leave it in there (since they are small enough to be useless for anything else)

It charges it and to use the iPod, you hit the CAT button because it is connected through the radio's XM interface. The cool thing is if you have XM you will still be able to use both. The Peripheral PXDP3 also shows Artist, Song, Album info, etc. The PXDP3 was designed for the new GM Trucks and SUVs. The link to it on their website:

go to ebay and type in ipod silverado 2007 and you will see a harness that will allow you to utilize the ipod through the factory controls and also be able to charge it and leave it in the glove box. it is made by a company called PAC i think. check it out, i havent done that yet but i want to. i think i am still holding out for an xbox 360.

The old larger ipod only said about 10hrs, with the nano at 30, that's why i got the nano. the new style or larger one called classic now gets around 30, and i think the nano went down a touch.

Thanks for the link, I think I'm gonna try that out, it would be great to keep the factory stereo and have Ipod integration, preatty much exactly what I was looking for. Has anyone taken the new dashes apart...? I wonder if the install is hard, I don't have much faith in the stereo installers in my area.

The Peripheal and the PAC look indentical. If anyone tries one that has Nav, let me/us know how it works, thanks.

I'll chime in on this one....

I have the factory NAV system and wanted the same ability to control it through the headunit. First, I bought the Coastal Electronics unit along with their Lockpick unit to unlock the DVD on the front screen and the ability to change NAV addresses, etc. while moving. The Coastal Ipod unit is junk IMO. It had all kinds of hiss and distortion and never wanted to showup on the screen correctly, or at best, it acted lethargic when you were trying to navigate around the Ipod menus. I sent it back and bought the PAC model. The PAC unit has no distortion or hiss. It is much more user friendly and works far better. The only drawback seems to be a limit to the list of artists on the screen. It is limited to about 20 or 30 artists. I have well over 100, so it forces me to sometimes use the Ipod's controls if I am choosing the music by artist. The Coastal unit will not allow you to control the Ipod from the Ipod, and it has the same limits on artist lists, thus becoming a pain in the a** to deal with. Hope that helps! :omg:

That's good to know rex, luckily for me I'm usually just in shuffle on my Ipod so the most switching I do is inbetween songs. I'm just trying to find a good place to take my truck to have it installed.

BTW is this the item you used?

That one, and this one

Appear to be the same, one just costing a little less, I assume that both these harness work with my truck being a non-nav with XM and an 08.
