Travis Johnson Vs. Trent Green

I was watching highlights from the weekend's NFL action and happened to see the play that left Trent Green motionless on the turf of Relient Stadium.

If you missed it, on a broken play, Trent Green tried to throw a block, and Travis Johnson (Texans' DT) unknowingly hit him in the head with his knee.

It was an unfortunate play, in that Green was injured, but that's part of the game. What is not part of the game is standing over a player that is out cold and taunting him. Then after the game (keep in mind he watched Green be strapped to a stretcher and carted off the field, and still doesn't know if Green is ok) he has the audacity to call Green a coward for blocking low. I haven't been so disgusted by a persons actions in a long time. To taunt a player that is unconscious, then compound that error by going on a tirade about his character is simply absurd. Then after some Texans PR guys explained to this idiot what he had just done, so Johnson readdresses the media and apologizes. Nope, not for his disgusting rant toward Green... he apologizes for getting his team a 15 yard taunting penalty.

By the way, I'm not a Dolphins fan or Trent Green Fan, I was just appalled at this guy's reaction.

Here's a link to a story in the Houston Chronicle: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5195677.html

Your thoughts?

I was shocked at his comments, but when you look at the hit and if the roles were reversed. it was a bad block, it was a block that 90% of the time would have injured the player, broken his leg or tore his knee. I understand his anger in the hit, it was a low block, that would have in any other case threw up flags. Because green was injured on the play, it will be overlooked and johnson will be the bad guy. Johnson does have a valid point but will be overlooked as to the injury to green, Flame away!!!

I was watching this game when this happened and, I'm somewhat impartial because though I live in Houston I am a lifelong Cowboys fan (not a bandwagoner), I knew Green was hurt when they were showing the play live from kind of an outward and elevated angle. I mean dude was very obviously in a bad way because he was totally motionless and for Johnson to say he didn't know Green was hurt is a load of crap. He stood up, looked back in the direction of the block and saw Green laying motionless and then walked over and did his thing.

I understand that he was upset because Green cut his legs but that block is legal in an offensive set and is supposed to only be illegal on a special teams play. If he has a problem with that block, not get bent at a guy who's playing within the rules and trying to help his team make a play. Take it up with the league. And for him to pass it off as not knowing, well then how does he explain his original post game comments? He saw Green strapped down and taken away from the field just like everyone else at or watching the game yet still has the nuts to be a baby about it.

The first thing that went through my mind after seeing Johnson's reaction yesterday was "Yet another reason I'm glad I'm a Cowboys fan". Travis Johnson, you are a piece of sh1t.

It is my understanding that the block was clean and legal. As Trent Green told Peter King of SI "Where was I supposed to block him?"

For the sake of argument though, lets just say the block was questionable. And Johnson had the right to be upset. I'm not sure I could even fathom a worse way to handle it. Then the topper is during his apology, he's sorry for getting a penalty... not for his comments toward a Green, who very well could have taken his last snap in the NFL. Just amazing.

I definitely disagree with the way he reacted when asked about it. But Trent Green is just as guilty as anyone. I understand your trying to stop a big play, but what kinda QB throws himself in front of someone probably a good 100 lbs heavier? Camry versus an F350 if you will.

No two ways about it, it was pathetic move.

Pretty typical behavior for modern day corporate sponsored "sports" though. Character no longer matters in the world of 4 quarter TV commercials disguised as "games" if you can perform. Don't believe me?

How else would you explain Alan Iverson and Terrell Owens?

I miss real football that didn't have a penalty for every idiotic little thing. Let real men get out there and hammer it out. The sissies will go home in a body bag.
