Spray In Bed Liner

I'm going to be a nice guy and get a spay in liner put into my girl's truck. I'd like to be as well versed as possible when I haggle over the price, so I would appreciate it if you all could tell me about what you paid for yours (and in what location). Prices are "set by dealers at fair market value", so I don't want to be taken for a ride.

I've searched the following threads and found some good info about the pros and cons of different companies.

I'm pretty sure what brand I'm going with, but feel free to leave comments about whether or not your happy with your purchase, I'm sure it could help others decide what they want to get.

thanks in advance

It's all the same stuff.

Just get the best price. But do look at work done by retailer. Some do touch up at a later date for free if they are still in business.

Linx Rino what's the difference !

It's actually not the same stuff. Having Line-X in three of my trucks and having friends with Rhino, they are both fine products and it depends strongly on what you use it for. Rhino is more "rubbery" and has a no-slip grip to it, which is perfect for a friend of mine who always has tools and plumbing equipment in the back, stuff never slides around. Line-X is harder to gouge, a more "rough" texture and doesn't have the non-stick properties, which is perfect for me because I'm always sliding boxes and stuff in and out of the truck.

I paid $450 for my Line-X, over the rail. He originally wanted $495 but I told him I'd had it done one 2 other trucks for $450 so he dropped the price.

Rhino is about the same price in my area (Bay Area, CA).

Keep in mind that the quality of the spray is based entirely on where you get it done. These are franchises and some are better than others. I've seen botched Rhino & Line-X jobs on trucks that were uneven over the rail, different thicknesses in different parts of the bed, that sort of thing. Finding a reputable vendor is important.

They aren't even close!!! Get educated! Not the same product at all. Rhino sucks. It peels, fades to white, and looks like crap. Line-X is superior in all ways. It is harder, stronger, looks great now and in 20 years, and does not fade or peel (unless installed incorrectly).

Find someone who knows what they are doing and get Line-X done for no more than $450 over the rails.

Ok, I had a chance to make some calls today, and was surprised by the range of prices that the dealers within the DFW metroplex offered. Keep in mind I'm hunting for a non-color matched over the rail job on a shot bed full size truck.

The highest (and of course closest location to me) wanted $550.00 plus tax (avoid Line-x of Lewisville, TX like the plague)

The local Rhino guy had a five day waiting list (which surprised me) and wanted $480 + tax

Line-X in Hurst will get me out the door (with tax) for $539

Line-X in Arlington was the cheapest Line-X dealer @ $507 out the door

Metro Rhino in Grand Prairie wants $429 + tax...and these guys pissed me off, only after I explained that I was going to shop around and find the best deal did they point out that they have coupons for $25 off on their website. (reminded me of a used car dealer)

And the cheapest price I was quoted in the DFW metroplex was at Truck Toys in Arlington, who will spray a Rhino in for $375

---Now, after reading some of the above posts, I'm wondering:

a) will I get what I pay for? i.e. an inferior installation at the better price?

b) I'm looking at about $100 dollar difference between Line-X and Rhino. Is it worth a hundred bucks to get what seems to be the consensus better product (Line-X) if they both come with lifetime nationwide warranties?

Sorry for the info overload, but I figure I might as well post my findings if it could help out some folks down the road.

Thanks for the speedy replies, I'd like to get this done this weekend.

Personally I like Line-X more and would pay the $100 more for it. However, if you call the Line-X guys and say you're thinking about going to Rhino because it's so much cheaper, I almost guarantee you they'll cut you a deal.

The materials cost almost nothing here, and the labor isn't a big deal so a Line-X or Rhino spraying is like 80% profit, minimum. They're more than willing to take $50-100 off if they think it'll close the deal.

I had a Line-X in my last truck. It was a great bedliner, Rhino doesnt even come close!

Whenever I can afford it, there will be a LINE-X in my Sierra.

My local shop charges $430 w/rails.

There were 4 of us that did it at the same time, same day (we all pulled in with cash). I paid just under $375 for a Rhino in my 05' 1500 crew cab.

My BedRug will be here Monday for under $400.

Soft on my old knees sounds good.

Back on the Line-X - Go for quality, location of shop (closer is better) over price.

It's all the same stuff.

The difference is in the prep, the installer, additives, and the spray nozzle.

Is Mobil gasolene better than Sunoco or Chevron or Texaco? It's all the same stuff going thru the same pipeline or tanker ship.

Line-X and Rhino are NOT the same stuff. Rhino is Urethane-based, Line-X is NOT. Line-X is much harder and tougher. You can take a sample square of Line-X and "Sand" a sample square of Rhino and the Line-X doesn't even scuff. I know, I did it. Yes, they are both good products, but Line-X is simply better, no doubt in my mind.

I got mine done for $400, under-rails, over-rails would have been $50 more.

The Line-X in my 99 Silverado Z71 is going on 8 1/2 years old now and there is no sign anywhere of peeling, wear or fading. It cleans up like new with my pressure washer and Simple Green!

The best part is that I got my Line-X for free! The day I bought my truck, the Chevy dealer hosted a local radio station that was giving away a free Line-X spray job. While I was waiting for the truck to get prepped, I dropped a coupon into the bin and sbout an hour later they called my name! At the time, Line-X was going for around $350 locally.

It sounds like the price ranges are just what the individual shops want to charge. The application process is (or should be) the same at any of the Line-X dealers. The key would be to see how good of a job they do on the prep side. They should do a good sanding job to make sure the coating adheres properly, the masking should be even and straight, and you should get the advertised thickness of the coating. Like anything else, ask to see completed jobs and ask for names of customers if they wil give them to you.
