Gm-round Nerf Bars

Recommended Posts

Posted

I had GM round nerf bars installed on my new 07

ext-cab Z71.

I have one cap drivers side rear and the rest are

open.

The dealership said that that is how they come?

The cap looks like it has a rivit holding it on.The

other three are smooth open ends/no hole for rivit?

Does anybody else have this problem with GM bars?

It looks like cheap junk to me.

Subject: Service VME - Accessories Round Tubular Assist Steps End Cap Missing - keywords accessory miss tube #PIT4285 - (02/12/2007)

Models: 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

2007 GMC Sierra

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

SERVICE VME

A number of inquiries have come in from the field relative to the single end cap used only on the driver's side rear of the 2007 (GMT900) Silverado / Sierra Accessories 3" Round Tubular Assist Steps (P/N 17801753, 17801754, 17801755, 17801756, 17801757, 17801758).

This end cap is NOT a beauty cap. Rather, the purpose of this cap is to help protect the vehicle's fuel tank from intrusion of the assist step tube end in the event of a side impact crash. It is not necessary to add this cap to the other three 3 tube ends.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

It is real disappointing though that they would think it okay to put a cap on one of four ends and leave the rest. For crying out loud, they're mostly for looks and that has to look like crap. How much could it cost to put on the other three,, $3-4 ??

And the one with one end cap must fill up with dirt/mud/etc really easy if the front is open and the rear closed.

Pure genious. :dunno:

Gotta cut corners somewhere. They added $millions to their bottom line over the sales life of those bars. Goes a long way towards paying for the pension and other post-employment benefits! You don't mind do you? It's just a few caps!! lol...
