Problems With Ebcm Programing

Carbon Denali

I have a 2003 GMC Denali.

The problem I was having was once in a while I'd get a message that the stabilitrak system needed service. On the receipt was this:Performed diag got code C0455.V5ES. Vehicle needs USCS Module updates-Some steering column sensor needed to be re-calibrated so they flashed it.

When they flashed the system for that it burned out this module:

Description: MODULE

Part #: 15104548

Categories:

Mechanical > GROUP 6 - BRAKES & WHEELS > ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM

The tech called it the EBCM-Electronic Brake Control Module.

They said it was ok to drive it home that night until they got the new module. That night both my low beams didn't work, they were both burnt out. The high beams work, just not the low. Put in two new bulbs and all is well there. It seems odd they would both burn out, and on the same day they tried to flash the truck.

So they ordered a new EBCM and installed it. Now when they try to program the EBCM it won't program correctly. They hooked the tech2 up to the truck today they said the new EBCM must have fried as well because the tech2 couldn't communicate with it at all now. I guess before when they installed it the the tech2 could see it but it wouldn't program right.

What they want to do now is wait for a '03 with the same VIN group as mine to come in and they'll borrow the EBCM that is already programed off of that truck and put it on mine and it should work without flashing since its already set up for the same truck.

I wonder why the tech2 can't flash the new EBCM and why the new ones that are not programed get fried. I worry that if the one they borrow from a trade in works, great but for how long? Will whatever the problem is in time take that one out too? I guess the ABS was working fine before so maybe that will fix the problem. I'll just have to hope they never have to flash it again!!
