Intermittant Problem With Sound

Recommended Posts

Hey guys anyone want to help figure this out. I have a 2007 NBS Z71 ext cab with Bose & factory Nav. When I first got the truck the onstar antenna needed to be replaced. The dealer did that and the next day. I went to mute the stereo and it wouldn't mute or change stations so I turned off the thing and lo and behold with the radio off it begins to play music. I have gone to the dealer who says no codes showed up. It has never happened again. Now on occasion there will be a crackling sound heard through the speakers and then no sound (music)for a few seconds then sound (music) reappears. Dealer cannot find problem. I first thought that it was due to onstar antenna replaced but this happens whether I am listening to FM,XM or CD. Dealer has rechecked antenna connection and nothing found. Now for two weeks it hasn't done this and last night. I heard it again, this time it happened when I was closing the rear automatic window. Most likely coincidence. Dealer has offered to replace the nav system however, they tell me it would be refurbished. I bought a new truck not a used one. Why should I have to settle for a refurbished nav system that may not resolve the issue. If it does not, I have now swapped out a new nav for a used one. Any help guys?

Do you store a cell phone near the radio area?

Have had static-wierd radio noises from a cell phone being located too close to them...don't know why either...

Subject:Audio Whine Noise from Radio Speakers When Using OnStar (Install Noise Suppression Filter) #07-08-46-002 - (06/06/2007)

Models:2007-2008 GM Passenger Cars and Trucks (Including Saturn)

2007-2008 HUMMER H2, H3

2007-2008 Saab 9-7X

with OnStar (RPO UE1)

Condition

Some customers may comment on an audio whine coming from the radio speakers when using the OnStar® system. The amplitude and frequency of the whine will change with an increase or decrease in engine speed.

Cause

This condition may be caused by electrical noise on the OnStar® Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM) battery feed wire being passed to the microphone output pins at the radio.

Correction

Technicians are to install a noise suppression filter, P/N 1224205, inline in the OnStar® battery voltage circuit a few centimeters (inches) from the VCIM. The feed circuit wire is red/white and is located in cavity 15 of connector C1 of the VCIM. Connector C1 is a 16 cavity natural colored connector. The filter package has a yellow and a black wire at one end and a single yellow wire at the opposite end. Install the side with the two wires toward the "INFO" fuse (away from the VCIM), installing the yellow wire in circuit 3240 and the black wire to ground. Then install the single yellow wire end towards the VCIM.

Important: The noise suppression filter is polarity sensitive. The filter is designed to be most effective when the end with the capacitor ground is connected towards the source of the electrical noise. Install the filter in this polarity first. If the noise level is still not satisfactory, try disconnecting the capacitor ground. In some cases if the first installation does not correct the noise, try reversing the filter polarity (removing the filter, turning it end for end and then reinstalling it) and grounding the capacitor lead.

Attention: Proceed with this bulletin ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the EI number is listed in GMVIS, otherwise disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in the published Service Information. THIS IS NOT A RECALL. Refer to Service Bulletin 04-00-89-053A for more detail on the use of engineering information bulletins.

Condition

Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this condition, do not proceed with this bulletin.

Some customers may comment on a door trim buzz noise during radio speaker operation.

Correction

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. GM Engineering has a need to obtain information first hand during diagnosis and BEFORE repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix. Please follow the instructions below regarding the requested information.

If the customer's concern can be duplicated, document the following information in the repair order:

  1. From which area of the door does the buzz originate?
  2. When the buzz is detected, document the following radio settings:

    volume

    bass

    midrange

    treble

  3. Based on the location of the buzz, remove the door trim and search for potential causes. Inspect the speaker connection for a secure fit. Inspect the area behind the door trim panel and insulation cover for loose fittings or components. If the cause is isolated, perform necessary corrective actions to alleviate the buzz.
  4. For dealers located in SE Michigan ONLY between 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. - contact the engineer (Matt Berg) prior to making any repairs. For all other cases, if the speaker is found to be defective proceed with the repair. Submit a Field Product Report (refer to bulletin 02-00-89-002F) containing all information requested in this bulletin as well as the diagnosis and repair.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
    • I wonder kind of nuts and bolts they will come up with next? Jim
