Stolen Gas At The Airport

 I was in Dallas all week for a school at Simuflite. When I got back, after a couple of delays, of course, My plane was about 2 hours late. It's about 10:30 pm. I get to my truck in the remote parking lot, and after a good inspection for damage, I get in and start it up and my F*****G gas light is on!!! WTF!! I parked it with over half a tank. Some low life POS stole my gas! So I had to stop at the airport gas station and get robbed for 3.75$ a gallon. And living 40+ miles from the airport I had to put alot in. So first thing this morning I bought a locking gas cap. I hate thieves.

Thanks for listening to my rant. I'm still pissed!!!!!!!

Don't be sorry... Yours is a well placed rant. That and I HATE THIEVES!!!

As fuel gets more expensive I think we are all going to have to take measures to keep what we buy. Does anybody know if GM offers locking caps that can be keyed to work with an ignition key? I realize that may be unrealistic but do they offer a locking cap made specifically for our trucks?

I thought I seen a locking fuel door once that you could buy. It came with the same lock that was in the doors.

OR...was I just dreaming...

That is total balls man....thieving bastards...hope the bastard got sick off the fuel from siphoning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought these trucks had a device that prevents fuel from leaking out in the event of a rollover and it acts as an anti-siphoning device.

Its a check valve at the entrance of the tank where the fill pipe meets the tank its self. It is an anti siphoning device, until you apply approx 15-20 psi of pressure to it and it falls in the bottom of the tank.

A quick punch with a long metal rod will do it.

Than, disconnecting the fuel feed line, and running the pump emg. bypass off the battery will drain your tank pretty quickly too. Its not hard to pop the hood from outside either.

f**kin thieves.

Um... ya shoulda just got enough at the airport to get ya to a regular station to then get more at a cheaper price.

Glad the Jeep I just got came with a factory locking gas cap!!

But just watch out. With the rising price of gas, don't be surprised if people start poking a hole in gas tanks to steal the gas!! Thieves will stop at nothing, including locking caps, to get what they want!!:lol:

Heh...you positive someone stole your gas? It just seems like too much work in a public lot to get through that anti-siphon device then still have time to drain 12 gallons of gas from you with no one noticing. My sender unit is going bad and bounces around showing false fuel levels. Just askin.

Youd be better off getting a locking fuel Door than just a locking cap.

As the saying goes, a mere locking cap "Just keeps the honest folks honest". A locking fuel door would fare much better as a deterrent I think.

You said it your self man...locks keep the honest honest....don't really matter what you do i figure,

Does alarms stop cars from being stolen....only by the small time thieves.

the way I see it, a tank of fuel is cheaper to replace than a locking fuel door. Quick fix...just drive around everywhere with under1/4 tank, than they wont be able to steel much.

The way I see it though, It takes alot more effort and special tools (I.e. bigger crow bar) to get through a locking fuel door than those gas caps.

I wouldn't do the under 1/4 tank thing..... You figure the most a common thief is gonna get is maybe a 5 gallon can worth. If they suck out 5 gallons and you've got 5 gallons or less in the tank.... you'll be bone dry when they're done with it, and therefore Royally SOL.

Yea I'm sure. The remote lot at Denver is really really remote and where I had to park was about 1/8 mile to bus stop. Not very publc late at night. And the police said I wasn't the only one that it happened to. :(

I don't know how big your tank is Mile High. But I know you said they got about a half a tank. How many gallons is that? 5-10?

Think it's gonna be a 26 gallon tank, from his sig pic he's got a RCSB.

I'd get a locking gas cap AND the locking fuel door...Double your pleasure, double your fun.

    • Are you using a weight distribution hitch system with your trailer as that alone can change the actual tire pressure requirements needed. It would prove interesting to see what the actual individual axle weights are on your truck when you are hooked up to the trailer. In fact when your hooked to the trailer, typically if anything unless it has a large capacity weight distribution system that is over cranked, often the weight on the front axle will be less when hooked up vs driving empty and certainly if one doesn't have a weight distribution hitch. Really the only times one may get up there with weight on the steer axle is if there was a snow plow mounted on the front or a motorcycle on a rack or with a very large jockey tank full of fuel at the front of the box that transfers a bit of its weight to the front axle.
    • Great info here thank you. I just joined, we have a 2014 Silverado truck we bought about 4 years ago with less than 5,000 miles on it. It has approximately 24,000 on it now. It appears to have all the standard issues that people are talking about. Occasional charging problems especially using 110 volt, occasional blinking triangle where nothing will turn on when first starting the truck but it will reset itself if you wait 10 to 15 minutes. Noisy coupler between the flywheel and the generator. Our truck is speed limited to 74 mph, is there any way to change that? The latest issue we have been dealing with is when driving long distance on the highway at full speed the generator does not keep the batteries charged. The meter will go into the yellow/red border Zone for charge status and the yellow triangle will illuminate solid but the generator will not keep the battery charged, not sure why the controller doesn't tell the gas engine to increase RPM to increase generator output it usually stays well below 25 kilowatts even though the battery is discharging and I have to slow down the highway to 45 mph and eventually pull over and let the truck idle to charge the battery so I can continue driving at speed. Has anyone had this issue before or have any idea how to diagnosed it? When via Motors was around it they were very helpful at troubleshooting. This becomes much if the Terrain is hilly and you're towing a small trailer
    • I have the GMC accessory (REV) cover installed by dealer. Ordered with the truck.  They did a very good install job, can't find a single issue. Some water gets in around the tailgate but no where else.  You can see daylight around the tailgate but that's not the covers fault.  Installation is means everything. Guys at my dealer were seasoned pros, not inexperienced here today good tomorrow types, like many dealers employ for these jobs.   I don't mind paying for a professional job.
    • Like others have said, they will all leak. Mainly at the corners.   I have owned several and the best has been my current one. Revolver x4
    • About 8 months after an alignment job by the dealer I started experiencing a pretty significant clunk in the front end on hard left hand turns usually parking lot speeds almost at lock.  Occasionally get the same on hard rights too.   Discovered that the lower control arm attachment bolts are TTY and only to be used for a single use. And then I found some evidence of a TSB that indicates you can over torque those fasteners to about 130 foot pounds.   Asked a local shop to investigate and they found 3 out of four bolts loose and retorqued.   I've ordered the MOOG    K100421 lower control arm bolt kit that is completely reusable and not TTY.    Is the 80 ft pounds a realistic number?  Anyone have experience with those bolts?
