Gm Is Charging My Dealer For The Vci Codes

So there you have it. Instead of accomodating customers who for whatever reason did not get the steering wheel controls, they are trying to discourage them by charging for the codes. But even so, at least they are willing to sell the codes. Some have posted that GM refused to release these codes.

I bought my truck off the dealer's lot because it was very close to what I wanted, but it did not come with the steering wheel controls. The genius who ordered the truck got white lettered tires for the extra $ 125 instead.

Oh well, at least it came with the XM radio and turn signal mirrors

Code for the radio for what ? Guess I missed something ? I want to swap steering wheels out for one with the controls , am I going to have to have a code ?

Its pretty much typical although $100 for the code is high if that price does not include the tech's charge to install it. . Best I can remember my dealer said they would charge me 50.00 for the code and 35.00 to put it in.

see that kind of price is something I would be willing to pay; not $100.00 PER CODE plus labor

I agree GM Dude, I would be a little happier if that was the case, but now I already have about $225 for the coil spring and wheel, I guess I will continue to look, or have it done already.

Stinks as far as I am concerend.

I have a new pushbutton steering wheel sitting in a box in my garage. Have not bought the clock spring harness yet, but I know it is not cheap. What a pain to do this mod!

if you complete this mod, could you take pictures along the way for a visual on how it was done by you?

that is just dumb white lettered tires for an extra 125.00

It sure is. No argument on that one.

Hey Guys im new here and I am looking at installing a Wheel with buttons in it on my 2003 Silverado and I can get one at a good price But if it would not work im not going to buy it . any help from you Guys would be a great help .

The problem with this mod is that it involves disconnecting the steering wheel air bag harness and replacing it with a new one. So, there is a potential here for miswiring something and not having the air bag deploy when needed. This creates a liability issue for GM and this in my opinion, is the only reason why they are reluctant or unwilling to release the necessary programming codes.

I may be stubborn enough to complete this mod on my truck. I just cannot stand looking at that new pushbutton steering wheel sitting unused in a box.
