When Is The Six Speed Tranny Coming?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know when GM is going to put the 6 speed tranny in the 1500 pickups? Will it be with all motor options or only some? Will it happen sometime in late MY 08 or will it be MY 09.

I realize not all want the new 6 over the 4 so I don't want to open a messy can of worms. Just looking for some info.

Thanks

After everybody else has installed a 7 or 8 speed in theirs. :uhoh:

I just picked up my truck a couple of weeks ago and it came with the 6-speed transmission. I'm noticing something that I haven't liked since the moment I first drove it and I hope a trip to the dealer will help. In other words, I'm hoping it's not running "normal" because then I'll know that it can be fixed. What is it? It feels like when you initially take off from a red light, she'll go through the gears quickly and look for 6th way too fast. She'll then "hunt" between 5th and 6th, to the point where you're feeling and on-and-off tug between gears. I watch the tach and it's confirming what I'm feeling because the needle spikes up and down ever so slightly. Then, when you want to give it a little tap to get the speed up in city driving, you have to press the accelerator down quite a bit to get her to get out of that 5th/6th shuffle, which then downshifts somewhat abruptly. I don't know, but it just doesn't feel right. Like I said, I actually hope the dealer tells me that she's broken and they're going to fix her. She has to go back for the squeaky front window TSB and the leaking oil TSB, so I'll see what the dealer says about the transmission thing when I get her back.

With all that said, I really have taken a liking to this truck and I'm happy that I drove something other than a Ford this time around.

and then its out, and then back in, and then back out, and then back in. lol just playing with ya. I personally dont think i'd like a sx speed, I find nothing wrong with the 3 speeds but then again, i'm in no hurry. I'd rather have a 3 speed trans and a two speed rear.

But its a yota.....that in its self takes all the coolness out of it.

and there ain't no way a yota is a 1500...maybe a 1250...definitely not a 1500. :uhoh::crackup::crackup:

So how much did you have to pay for that truck after you traded the Chevy and your man card in??:drool:

Has 85 posts most of them ragging GM. Why is he on here if he owns a Toyota ?

I am really tired of trailrider325.......to answer your question, yes 2009 is the "anticipated" launch year across the light duty (1500 series) platform.

In my humble opinion, more gears is not always better. I would consider a well designed 5 speed auto with manual shifting capability to be the best transmission type for 1500 series trucks. 6 speeds and above appears to be an overkill and means more annoying shifts.

As it is I am pretty happy with my 4 speed. As long as it shifts smoothly and predictably.

I have been driving 5 speed manual cars for years. And I find a manual 6 speed somewhat annoying. Seems like one too many gears to shift, especially when you're driving in city traffic.

I actually prefer a 5 speed.

Trailrider......what a tool :uhoh: all this is coming from the sameguy who said in another forum "i thought this was a site to talk about all trucks" i guess he missed the BIG heading at the top of the page!!! i said it to him on that forum and i'll say it again a quote from my favorite bumber sticker: "OUT OF A JOB YET?? KEEP BUYING FOREIGN"

I had a rental Acadia w/the 6speed for a couple of months that did a lot of similiar things. I know they are completly different vehicles but the rush to get to top gear was there as well as the 5/6 shuffle. The gears were always changing and changing and changing... :uhoh:

Looks like these things are geared mostly to squeeze more mpg out of the motors. Takes time to get used to the extra gears!
