At work somehow the idea came up that there was no law stating you have to pay federal income tax. It's been talked about a lot really. Well tonight I remembered and google searched it, and I've found lots of sites and places which also say there is no law stating you have to pay federal income tax, same goes for state income tax, as it's based off the federal income tax platform. Am I loosing my mind?

Its actually against the Constitution but its one of those things that would be very costly to fight.People have done it but its hard to fight against the Government.

well you arn't fighting against the goverment ... but against the IRS .. who has more rights to do what they want to you then any other 'law enforcement' group does ...

 

its one of those grey areas ...

 

just like the thing that states that everyone in the USA is a resident alien except for the people that are born in washington DC and have a DC drivers lisc ... we are residents of our state ... no where on our lisc or birth certificate does it say resident of the USA ... it says resident of (whatever state you are in) ...

Yeah, just try and not pay your taxes and see what happens. The IRS will change your mind about it :rolleyes: . Even though it sucks it is one of those certain things in life, death and taxes............

You can try not filing. They may let it ride for a while if they owe you money. But, if you owe them, they'll come after you, before too long...

 

If it was as easy as "just not doing it" do you think most of America would pay taxes each year?? I'd much rather have the $$ in my own pocket than in their's!

Ha! There's also no law that says they have to let you out of jail once they put you there for not paying your taxes...

Don't you think that if they could avoid it...That rich people would be ALL OVER this? They shoulder a MUCH higher tax burden than us lowly folks, and they're always looking for loopholes...If it were possible to simply not pay taxes, Bill Gates wouldn't pay hundreds of millions of dollars a year in taxes.

Guys I didn't believe any of this was true, it was a hot topic all day at work last Friday. Maybe it is true there is now law, but obviously that isn't stopping anything :lol:

 

The whole currency system is really a big loop. Fed reserve prints money and controls inflation / deflation, the Govt borrows money at instant interest. The way I see it (probably highly uneducated in this particular field) is the federal reserve pays it's own debt with tax. I guess it's the only way to have a "stable" economy.

 

 

I just thought we could have a good government chat with out politics, since thats not allowed. I loved history in school, but never really learned too much about the government. I guess I can here! It's pretty sad I work for them too.. :eek:

hah i am a network admin for a local tax franchise ... i see the results of 'what happens if i dont file for a few years' on almost a daily basis ... ;)

 

i know of several people that the IRS owns ... for the rest of their life ...

hehe ... well if it wernt' for the federal reserve and the things that they can do, we would likely be bankrupt and in worse shape then we are now ... :rolleyes:

 

oh wait, our money has already lost a decent amount of value when compared with some other countries

yeah like our dollar in Canada...

 

Awesome for us buying s**t state side....but our export businesses are suffering something fierce. Lumber, oil, maple syrup(LOL), they're all hurting man.

 

The Auto sales are doing great, however, if this continues, all the people working in plants that export stuff will be out of a job and I'm pretty sure Sales of everything will drop off than.

 

The banks are looking at upping the lending rates, and not giving auto loans for out of country cars, and they're making qualifying criteria more stringent for mortgages.
