05 Silverado Trouble Areas?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie that just traded my 99 Sierra off for an 05 Silverado. I found a receipt in the glove box that shows an Intermediate Steering Shaft was replaced under warranty. This I'm happy with, but I've had people tell me that the transmissions are flawed and I should save money for the inevitable replacement of such. I'm just curious, are the tranny's weak on all of them with the 5.3L's or am I just being riled. Also, are there any other weak spots I need to be aware of. The truck is an 05 Crew Cab with the 5.3L iron block and the Automatic tranny with the 4WD Electronic control and has less than 35,000 miles on it. It is the LT Model and Fully Loaded. I currently have no problems that I'm aware of and I really love this truck. Thanks for any responses ahead of time.

You have a very solid truck there. Drive it, maintain the tranny service like the manual states, and it will give you thousands of trouble free miles.

Thanks for the resposes. I'm glad to hear that the tranny is solid. I'm very picky about service and will probably over do it but that's what will make it last. I will watch Ebay for a 4 wheel drive switch, I've seen them new on there before and considered it when I had my 99 Sierra but never followed through.

So Even though the intermediate steering shaft was already replaced it may still be a problem? I did buy the very expensive extended warranty to avoid large out of pocket bills but I hate the downtime.

I really love this truck and am fairly easy driver (Drive like an Old Man) so hopefully it will treat me right also.

I had an 05 crew very much like yours and the only problem I had was a very noisy drivers seat. The truck had the split bench and after trips to the dealer they were never really able to get rid of the noise. So for several reasons I traded up to a 06 HD crew(seat noise is still there not nearly as bad as my 05).Im 6-3 and 210 so I have been told the seat is a bad design. On my 05 I also had a very hard shift from 1st to 2nd which I was told was "normal".Otherwise good luck with your truck.

One nice thing about buying the 05 model is that it was produced late in the life cycle of that body type. Many of the known issues in earlier models (99 and up) were addressed as they went along. This should make the 05 - 07 Classic trucks very well put together vehicles.

I bet you have a great new ride on your hands.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply's. That was a question I wanted to ask, So I have what is called the OBS, (old body style)? I wasn't sure what years were what. Please explain so I'll know as I read.

I've read about that 1st to 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd to 1st noise here and so far I don't have any of that. I feel something from a dead stop sometimes but it is minimal and not always there.

I really love the ride, it's like a big car and very solid with no rattles or squeeks yet, I HATE rattles and squeeks.

I've wondered about a tall person fitting in the truck, I'm 5 10 and 250# and wish the seat went back farther.

Is mine also considered a classic? Thanks for the replys, I'm learning and loving it.
