Running Gear Lube Change

Getting an oil change in the morning at a buddies garage. I going to change the fluids on both diffs, what the hell it's only money at Christmas?!?

I was also thinking of dumping the transfer case. Curious of opinions on this one. 110000 Km's on the truck.

Any ideas on this one?

It happens all the time when you press Ctrl, Delete, the number 7, the & key, and the ^ key simultaneously.

I don't know why, but many users do this.

Sounds like your a fellow Canadian.

I have 108,000kms on my 03 Sierra Z71and I am planning on changing it right away. I am also doing both diff's.

If you are already doing the diff's why not do the Transfer Case as well?

I'm going to do it myself but if the price is right at the dealer I may take it there. What are you being charged for the fluid change?

My 99 Silverado Z71 has 71K miles (114 km's??) and I have not changed the transfer case fluid yet. I have looked all thru the owner's manual and there is nothing in the scheduled maintenance section that talks about when to change it. Nothing for the front diff either.

The blue transfer case fluid IIRC is only available from a Chevy or GMC dealer and I have never heard of an alternative fluid.

I had the rear diff fluid changed at 6000 miles per the dealer. I would guess it's reasonable to change all of the driveline fluids every 100K miles and possibly more frequently for the transfer case if you use 4WD a lot. If you are out in the mud or high water, then the front and rear diffs should get changed much more frequently.

I did my transfer case pretty recently, NP261, manual shift. did it at 180.xxx miles. Fluid looked new, and 4x was used alot. Replaced with Mobil 1 5w-30 after reading suggestions @ Dieselplace.com. it was a royal pain on mine, i had to use a plastic tube and a nozzle on the quart bottle. will not be doing it again anytime soon. also be very careful with the plugs, they are soft.
