Water Flow

Hey Guys,

 

So, I had one of those weepy water pumps so I changed it out this weekend. All in all not a bad job and an excuse to buy a few tools. I didn't have a strap wrench nor did I have a big Enough wrench to go around the nut to the Fan. Anyways, I digress.

 

My question is this. Everything is back together now and running fine but, I fear that the water isn't flowing through the rad correctly. When I installed the new pump I also put a New thermostat in it as well but, even after a long drive it appears that the bottom hose on the rad is still cold? Is this normal operation. It runs at the right temperature and doesn't overheat. I thought it was kind of weird that the thermostat was on the bottom of the water system and not the top. I must admit I never checked the bottom hose before hand so I can't say if this is correct or not. The top hose is very hot but, it's not the same coming out the bottom. Are these radiators really that efficient?

 

Maybe I'm just worrying for nothing but, I'd appreciate all your input.

As long as the coolant level is right and your temp gage is reading correctly, it would appear that all is good.

 

The only possible issue I can come up with is air in the system maybe? When the coolant isn't hot, try squeezing the lower hose with the rad cap off and see if you get any air bubbles coming to the top. I used this method to "burp" the system on my Jeep and I was able to get a fair amount of air out of the system... even after I filled it from the highest point with coolant.

Wow, love this site!!!! We did that as per the Haynes Manual so, I guess I'm good to go then. I'll watch the level for the next couple of days in case any more air escapes but, I think we got it all. I'm just amazed that the bottom hose isn't more warm to the touch...
