Nnbs Dl8 To Dpn Mirror Swap Question

FYI... first topic post for me!!! I just purchased some DPNs for my '08 Two-Day-Old Silverado and have been reading on here. I just have a some questions. According to the TSB that I read in another post, I can do the swap and the only issue would be that the signals may/may not work in the new mirrors. I may need to add some additional wiring harness to get that to work. That is not an issue, but my concern is will the mirrors plug in ok? I did this swap on my '03 but times certainly have changed. I really would like to hear from someone that has done this NNBS swap, not OBS swap, as I have done that one already.

I have just done this swap today. My turn signals work without any extra wiring and it plugs right into place where the DL8s were.

It was a pain in the ass, partly cause it kept raining so I had to stop a lot and close the doors. I couldn't figure out how to get the d**n plugs out (that hold the wiring harness down to the door) so I just tugged it off the tape, cut the stem of the old plugs then inserted the new ones in place. Other than that once I did one side (started with driver so I can test the mirror functions before going through the whole install) the other side went fairly smoothly.

And welcome to the board.

cool thanks... glad to hear it. I was getting worried. Did you by any chance take any pics of the back of the switch assembly? or any steps along the way? I would like to see some if anyone has taken pics before I get going.

Also, did you have to remove the door panel? or just the switch?

Another question... do you have the part numbers of the new DPN mirrors? From the exhaustive searching online about this I have done, it would appear that there are more than one type of camping mirror, one for an upgrade from the DL3, and one for an upgrade from the DL8. Not sure if this is accurate, or the people that listed that stuff were as confused as I am. I am sure I can make it work, but I don't have the ones I bought here in my hands yet and wanted to get as much info about this upgrade before I get them and dive into the doors.

No, sorry didn't take any pics but I did have to remove the switch panel, yes...Pretty simple to do, just gotta remove the door grab handle (pop it off at the bottom with a flathead screwdriver to remove 2 bolts) and the switch panel is held on with clips, just tug upwards with a bit of force. The clips are metal so don't worry about using a little strength on it. I had to pop out the top corner of the door panels as you have to remove the old wiring harness from the door and also thread it through the hole in the switch panel. The harness plugs into a single slot which is attached to the door armrest by itself, it's got a plastic clip holding it on the door. You should also remove the big access cover just below the arm rest in the center and remove the two bolts, it'll allow you to pull the panel out enough to get your hand in there to thread the harness in and out.

I don't think there is one for a DL3 upgrade as they use a different wiring setup...DL3 is the power fold mirrors with turn signals (but shaped like the regular DL8s) and it uses some kind of independent door module controller.

If you have any trouble with it let me know and I'll send some pics of the pieces in question...I've had it off and on enough times I can manage to take it apart again if needed. But otherwise it's a fairly straightforward installation process requiring very few tools...A 10mm socket or wrench (extension is recommended for removing the door panel bolts), flathead screwdriver, and maybe a magnetic pickup tool but I mainly used the socket and screwdriver and a lot of elbow grease.

And FYI, this is on a 1500, I'm not sure how different it is on a 2500HD but I imagine not majorly based on the part numbers being the same.

thanks... it makes me feel a bit better about buying them. Now... just can't wait for them to come in and give them a try.

I saw the post and thought I would ask about being able to do the turn signal/electric door mirrors conversion on an o2 gmc2500hd??? is this possible and if so whats involved thx tim

In theory, yes...They can be mounted up (As long as you have the right body style mirrors) but I believe it depends on your current trim level whether or not the functions will work. If you have power mirrors already it should work as the connections are largely the same but the turn signal function is a bit of an oddity on paper, sometimes I will see instructions that say that a separate wiring connection must be made to make them work, but mine worked right out of the box.
