Well she went in this AM and I am driving around now in a 08 Black Silverado -

She is getting the 2 front wheels worked on they are getting them cleaned up and re clear coated - looked like some of the clear was lifting so they are fixing that

And had to order a new Chrome trim piece on the grill - after detailing her I saw there were some dark spots in the chrome so they are ordering that as well...Nothing Major just an update -

So far great service from my GMC/Caddy Dealer and spoke to him about mods and what they will get cranky about, he said what I thought he would... just stated as long as it does not mess up the truck then you will have no issues otherwise, and do not mess with the emissons... Enjoy your day guys/gals :)

Are they sending your wheels out to get refurbed or installing new ones? Clearcoat on wheels isn't easily removed and redone. It's almost impossible to remove it without disturbing the machined finish... something best left to an expert wheel refurbisher at the very least.

This is true. I had one of my front wheels damaged in a car wash. The clearcoat was scuffed (along with my dented fender and scuffed bumper, but that's a whole different topic). I had the option of having it sent out to be refurbished or getting a new wheel. The GM Bodyshop would not even attampt to fix it, they said they won't even try it. Since it was all being paid for by Yocum Oil Co. (the car wash owner) I opted for a brand new wheel to the tune of $625. refurbing would have cost about $200. I now have a spare wheel in my shed with a 1" dia scuff in the clearcoat. :)

They are taking it to the Wheel guy here in town who refurbs wheels he has a good rep in town for wheels, His specialty is AL wheels so we will see how it all comes out. if they do not look right I will say I want a new wheel thats that... I had my truck for 2 weeks so should not be an issue at all, I am sure they want to see what the cheapest route is first...

I just want to add to your storry, but if you people have car washes at your dealer NEVER LET THOSE 5 DOLLAR AN HOUR CAR PORTERS RUN THEM THROUGH IT! TWICE MY TRUCK HAS BEEN DAMAGED BY THOSE IDIOTS!

The washing at my place is all hand washing. Granted they have a high pressure washer, which is why whenever I go there I wash it myself. It is a really small dealership. It probably won't do anything, but I don't like the idea of a high pressure washer on paint.

Yeah best advice do not go through automatic washers, Much saver doing it all by hand and the results are so much better. I pressure wash mine down in winter to remove salt and dirt and I always spray 2ft from the body at and angle, theres usually 2.5' to 3' of space from pressure washer nosle to paint

I would never take my truck thru a car/truck wash.

But, there are some that don't have access to a hose. It's a dilemma.

I once had a custom aluminum wheel repaired and refinished (was bent). It looked like a brand new wheel after the repair. A replacement wasn't being made anymore for it so it was my only choice. I was quite satisfied with it. It still looked great a year later when I sold the car.

When you live where the weather is constantly below, 0'c in the winter, and you have no place to wash it, you really have no choice but to go to the carwash. I go through the drive thru one mostly in the winter, cause there is a dryer at the end. Never ever had a problem. I drive it through myself, and its a "lazer" wash, so nothing is rubbing agaings the vehicle. Oherwise I just go to the self serve, and do it myself. Just my 0.02c

Nothing wrong with the "lazer" or touchless car washes I go to around here. There are some crappy ones, but the ones I use don't even have rails or bump stops to mess up your wheels. Just nice smooth concrete. The spot free rinse and dryer is also handy. Especially considering how hard the water is around here.

Yeah she comes home today!!! Just talked to the Mgr - they replaced the rims on my truck - Wheel guy said he did not want to attempt to fix them and have me upset that it was not right -

Also they had to order my chrome around my grill - they had one but after opening it they saw some marks I would not be happy with so they are just getting a new one

Go GMC/Caddy in Florida....
