Heated Drivers Seat Issue

Recommended Posts

Posted

A good friend of mine has a 2003 GMC 1500 SLT.

The drivers heated seat comes on and changes settings at will. This problem only happens when it is damp or wet out. If it rains overnight but is dry in the morning, after about 5 miles down the road, it will eventually turn itself off and work properly. If it is rainy, snowy or foggy, the drivers heated seat will come on, off, and change settings constantly. When it is dry outside, the seat functions properly.

The truck has been to two different dealers with no real suggestions other than to start replacing parts to see which one may have failed. Each dealer sprayed the outside of the drivers door as well as under the hood towards the wiring harnesses and the problem never happens for them. The fuse has been pulled and the seat still acts the same. They have plugged the truck in and there are no codes showing either.

Anyone have this problem and have any solutions or does the truck have a ghost??

Thanks!

Mine does this in the same situations you mentioned. I do not know a fix for it, but the next time I get an oil change then I will ask them to take a look at it. My horn also does not work sometimes also. If I find out anything from the dealer I will let you know.

and possibly switch closing circuit when moisture is in air?

The same thing happened to me today. Here in Eastern NC we had major storms come through last night, with the wind and rain blowing at the drivers side of the truck. Today when I left the house, the seat heater on the drivers side started coming on by itself, cycling through all settings. I would punch the buttons to turn it off, but 5 or 10 seconds later it would come on again. The truck was parked in the bright sun during lunch, and on the way home it never did it again. Gotta be a moisture issue. I just wonder if the new style switch will fix it? :P

Let me know if your dealer replaces your switches and that fixes the problem. Mine has been doing it for awhile now off and on and my dealership has no idea.

and possibly switch closing circuit when moisture is in air?

Thanks, Mike. I wonder if the switch that was developed for the 2004 problem is the same switch that comes standard in the 2006 model Silverado, or do I need to have the dealer order this "new" switch???
