New Truck Wont Start...

Got into my 07 GMT900 last night, turned the key, heard a loud click and nothing...tried again with similar results. Seems like the starter motor isnt turning, because there's plenty of power to run the locks, lights etc.

Getting towed to the dealer this morning but it's a total hassle and may impact my weekend plans (heading north to ski country). Before this truck I had a Toyota 4Runner that I had for 4 years and 75k miles - all I ever did was change the oil and it ran like a top. This truck has 11k miles on it and this will be it's second trip for a warranty issue. I'm not having good feelings about GM reliability right now...

First of all welcome to the site.

Now with that done, You can drop the Bla, Bla, Toyo this and Bla, Bla, Toyo that because alot of us don't care. Now it very well could just be a bad battery and that could happen in any auto (yes even to new tojo's) If all you did was to come here talk about how good your Tojo was, you can stick that out the window.

Hope your battery issue gets resolved quickly.

Norseman - I love the truck, all I'm saying is the reliability, so far, leaves a lot to be desired compared to my previous ride. It's definitely not a battery issue - plenty of juice.

I appreciate your patriotism and agree we should try to buy American whenever possible, but my Chevy truck was built in Mexico!

welcome to the site, hope you get your problem resolved quickly. ....... these days, it can be sooooo many things causing a problem its hard to tell. When it was just a battery and a 4bbl carb, and gas tank, we could pretty much determine right away what was wrong. But with all the electronics on the system, who knows what is preventing you from starting. some things may be..

are you in neutral, is the neutral switch bad? loose battery connection, low battery voltage????????? did something tell the MCU to not start as a safety?....

again, welcome....... and stop whining about how good the toyota was.......... :-)...........

I'm sorry you are having problems, but I'm not going to get into the whole built and assembled thing with you. You can do a search of my posts for that. All I will say is look up the difference between the two words. What truly matters is WHERE DID THE MAJORITY PARTS COME FROM and WHAT ECONOMY BENEFITS THE MOST?

Are you sure the battery has enough cold cranking amps? And if you are how did you test it? Did you have the battery stress tested?

Thanks for the welcome. I was definitely in park. I heard some faint electrical humming - sounded like it was coming from the dash, almost like the CD player was trying to load or something. I shut everything off opened the doors, closed them, hit the remote lock/unlock and tried again - just a loud click from under the hood but no revs out of the starter. I had been using the remote starter several days in a row because it was cold...I wonder if that's somehow involved.

No more whining about Toyotas!

remote start that could probably be it, maybe something around the lines of the installing someone did something wrong?

Remote start is factory installed - it's worked fine so far.

I did not stress test the battery but headlights, stereo and door locks all worked fine. Voltmeter looked normal last time I drove it. It's getting hauled off to the dealers now. I'll let you know what it was.

BTW - is there anything I should be cognizant of when I have this truck towed? Do I need to insit on a flat bed since it's 4x4? I would always prefer a flatbed, but didn't know if there is anything else I should be aware of.

You have got to be kidding. The guys NEW truck wont start and right away you start complaining about how you hate toyotas. If everything else works fine(power windows, lights, etc) then its probably not the battery. Crappy deal, hope they figure out whats wrong and get it fixed for you quick. And for all of you who keep saying BUY GM its MADE IN AMERICA, ive got a little information for ya. Its ASSEMBLED in NORTH AMERICA but a lot of the parts, are manufactured overseas. Just cause it says built in the USA doesnt mean its quality and just becasue its not built in the USA doesnt mean its crap. BTW, honda toyota, nissan ,and all the rest built in NA too, and since thty have built in NA, their quality has gone to s#$t

Gentlemen,

I have a flawless '00 Silverado with 140k on the clock. I really enjoy driving it and owning it.

I have also owned 9 new honda products in my life including motorcycles. They have all been great vehicles.

My '04 Acura swallowed its trans at 37k. Only problem it has ever had. Dealer replaced, no sweat. I still love Honda products and consider them very reliable. One or two problems, even if one is serious, is not an indictment of the product line.

My point is this. Two warranty problems in 11000 miles is not bad at all. What is bad is a continuing series of problems that the dealer can not fix and recur.

Bottom line: Nothing mechanical owes you anything. And I hope your funky starter is the last problem you ever have, I would bet on it. These are well made vehicles.

Please show me where I was saying anything about hating Toyota. I was just telling him to knock off the Toyo is so great garbage. It had nothing to do with what is going on with his truck!!!

And for your statement about stuff going to sh!t since it's been built in the US shows me you don't know what the hell you are talking about! Just FYI Toyota's #1 recalled Auto last year was a MADE IN JAPAN and ONLY JAPAN model. Also the nissan altima (the one assembled here in MISSISSIPPI) replaced the CamCord in quality ratings. The problem Toyota has been having as of late has more to do with engineering, than assembly!

In my opinion, he was just stating that he didnt have any problems with his previous vehicle, which happened to be a toyota. It didnt seem to me that he was trying to build them up, just stating a fact, and you seemed quick to jump on him for that. Any vehicle can have a problem for seemingly no reason. It is unfortunate that his has one being new, though not entirely unexpected. The farther we get away from the mechanical, the more problems there seem to be. That being said, my 94 jimmy that i bought used turned out to be nothing but trouble, while i cant say enough good things about my new gmc sierra.

A vehicle is a Mechanical device, EVERY mechanical device will break down, sooner or later, no matter the quality control testing, or reliability ratings.
