its really your call, people have different opinions, I say you did good, I run Mobil 1 and Fram filters, but that is me......Let us know how it runs......

For the protection and what I have read on line, Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum are just as good as Royal Purple and not as expensive. But like stated above it is really up to the individual. As for the K&N oil filters, they are a good quality filter with a great flow rating and show good results on oil analysis reports.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. So question now. I can change out of the Royal Purple to like the Valvoline when I want to correct? Since the one is just as good and is cheaper.

RP is excellent oil - and 100% synthetic. If you switch oils to save a bit per quart/litre, make sure that you are switching to Amsoil or Mobil 1 or something else that is pure synthetic. For example, I believe that Castrol Syntec is actually a blend.

Will switching to some thing that is not 100% Synthetic harms the motor or seals then?

Actually Castrol Syntec is hydrocracked Group 3. There are many out there who think Mobil 1 is also using some Group 3 along with PAO.

Castrol Syntec European formula or German Castrol 0W30 is PAO or all synthetic. But is only avalable at Autozone. It is also made in Germany.

I've always heard that RP shears really bad.

That opinion is also shared by others. I have never used Royal Purple so I cain't say first hand. There are many who say it is great oil as well.

im running Royal Rurple now and love it! B4 i put it in, i had a just noticable engine knock noise... and the RP got rid of it! It's the only oil i will use now or recommend!

BTW- look for it on ebay.. i saved like $20 on a case of it on there compared to pepboys outragious price!

I switched over from Mobil 1 to RP last week and so far my truck seems to be running smoother and quieter. I'll see how it does at my next change when I send it in for an analysis. Honestly I think all of the top tier oils are very very good and about equal with each other when used by the average consumer. You certainly didn't make a bad decision.

I got 500 miles till my next oil change wich will be my second. I have been using conventional oil and wanted to switch to a synthetic.my question to yall is, when going from conventional to synthetic is there anything I must do before making the swap? just drain the old and add the new right?

i love royal purple, lasts a long time and seems like it smooths out the engine pinging and ticking. i have used the k&n filter once and wasnt impressed at all. i have no real proof, but per my DIC, the engine oil life didnt seem like it lasted as long as using a mobile 1 oil filt.

i have also read on article listed on this site to stay away from k&n and Fram filters.
