Crank Position Sensor

After searching and reading many posts, I think the small oil leak I am seeing on my 02 Yuk XL could be coming from the Crank Position Sensor. I am seeing a very small amt of oil on the bottom of the bell housing and on the lowest large bolt on the pass side that holds the trans and engine . I have seen a little oil on one of the starter bolts as well.

I removed the inspection plug in the bell housing and there is no sign of oil on the flywheel or torque convertor and no oil in the housing. Becuase of this, I have all but ruled out the rear mail seal leaking.

I will be home tomorrow where I can look at the CPS. Is there anyone here that can offer any advice on getting to the CPS? I know it is above the starter but I have never seen it or looked for it.

Pull the started off then unplug it and take the 8mm or 10mm bolt out (which ever size it has) and slide the sensor out.

Yes they have an o-ring on them, have seen a few leak some times they leak out the plug-in. Have also seen the Cam Position sensor leak also the gasket behind the plate that the rear main oil seal sits in. Have also seen the small plate( Not sure what its called) next to the oil filter on certain models leak.

Also dont forget to unhook the battery and it is also possible to move the starter with out pulling the wire off, kinda of a pain but it can be done.

Thanks again. The small plate above the oil filter is the oil cooler line block off plate. Mine had a little oil around it and I checked the bolts. They were not tight at all. I tightened them up and no more oil on this side of the engine.

I am thinking that if it is the gasket behind the rear plate I would be seeing some oil inside the bell housing when I removed the inspection plug. Just my thoughts.

I will check the CPS as soon as I get home tomorrow.

Thanks again for the info.

I agree if the plate gasket or the rear main oil seak were leaking it would be wet inside the bellhousing when pulling the inspection plug out. Good luck keep us posted.
