Joe28443 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I just got off the phone with the local chevy dealership and I had them run my vin. The man told me I had a 373 gear. Which is odd because I have been searching around all week to find someone to put that same gear in my truck because I thought I had 342's in it. I am doing this because I am not happy with the towing. I also have 285/75/16 tires on my truck that were on it when I bought them. They have about 6k miles on them so I am hesitant to buy some more. I am looking to buy tires in the next week or two and I need some advise. I am looking to put the stock size 265's on it again to help get the 373 gear back. I man told me I could put some 265/70/16's on it and it would help if I do not care to much about the way it looks.??? What kind and size tires do you recommend? I have BFG's on it now which I like but I am also looking into getting Destinations put on it.
slimjim2525 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Did you buy the truck used? I would doubt it had 285's on it with 3.73 gears. Definately goback to 265's and you should see a little improvement in your towing.
Lincoln30 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 265/75/16 is the stock 16" size for a half ton 4x4 not 265/70/16.

I am gonna try the stock tires back on it and try an cold air intake and a wait4me tune I think. If that does not work I am selling it

I'd think that would be easier than selling it, and then trying to find the truck you want.
Tylerz71 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 If it were me, Id spend the money to re-gear it to 4:10 and keep the tires as long as they still got good tread. But if its time to replace them anyway, some 265/75-16's should get the ratio back right, but it wont look as "beefy". a tune and intake should help out as well.
