Tpms Vs. Tire Gauge

Hi everyone,

On my 07 Silverado from day 1 the tire pressure monitor system has consistently been ~2 psi low vs. hand-held gauges. I've used both a digital guage and a standard slide-out guage, both of which read about the same as each other, and 2 psi higher than the TPMS. It haven't given it much thought until winter when it regularly thinks its low due to temperature. I recently had the tires rotated for the first time and the tire shop guy (non-dealer) thought that the sensors would be more accurate than a 'standard' tire gauge, but I'm not so sure.

Has anyone else seen discrepancies between the TPMS and your trusty tire gauge? If I take it to the dealer can they recalibrate it so when there is 35psi, it says 35psi instead of 33psi? Are there any known issues about this?

Thanks in advance,

John

There are tons of posts on TPMS issues around the net !

Most dealers won't recalibrate them for guys who want to

run lower pressures.

I like to run 50 frt.--70 rear in the winter for a bigger footprint

and now have a service TPMS message !

What a PIA ! Thank the Feds/exploder owners for this wonderful

new mandated accessory.

Funny.......The TPMS on my 03 Caddy never had a issue. This set-up

on the new GMT-900s is very touchy!...........geo

Hi geo,

I'm not looking to run different tire pressures...I'm just curious about discrepancies between the TPMS reading and a tire pressure gauge. Can I take it to the dealer and have them recalibrate the TPMS so that it reads the correct pressure?

Thanks,

John

Handheld average buy them almost anywhere tire gages are not accurate at all. If they are accurate within 2 to 3 psi, I would be amazed. We have an accurate gage at work that we use on accumulator bladders. It was extremely expensive. I really think you'd end up chasing your tail on this one.
