And by the looks of the front, it could use some new balljoints or something. :rollin:

Holy poo poo. I think I saw this actual van Friday, in Lafayette, LA. It had the same right tire sloping as in the pic and I believe the same state plates.

I tried visiting the web site but keep geting a 404 site not found.

*edit, cant spell tonight.*

There is not anything wrong with 3K mile oil changes. If I could afford it, why not. I know its not necessary and its not using the oils full potential, but I would like to baby the truck as much as I could.

I second that and to the original poster:

Read carefully what the article says: "added a quart of oil every other fill up. So essentially 1 quart per 800 miles or so. This means that in 3 thousand miles he essentially changed his oil without physically draining it!

what i get from that is GM did it with a 1991 model and it took Ford another six years to build one that would last ;) - j/k

Bet the japs are cringing over these coming out of the woodwork

Yeah, but what about the filter. I guess my theory is valid after all. Keep wasting your money and time.

Yes i did read that. But after 1 million miles you are complaining about adding a quart of oil every other fill up? I was referencing owners of new trucks that change their oil every 3k since day one. Im sure the ford didnt allways drink oil like that.

The article does not say anything about at what mileage he started adding a quart of oil every two fill ups. Some engine start using oil early - could have been at the 70k mile mark from all we know.

Maybe changing oil frequently is not critical with large V8 or V6 engines. But it is with small high performance turbo engines, such as Volkswagen 1.8 liter turbo. Many of these engines failed early in life due to sludge buildup even with synthetic oil changes at every 5k miles.

Clean oil is critical for overhead cam multi valve engines. My Mazda V6 has 4 overhead cams and a lot of cam journal bearings which are basically metal sleeves lubricated with oil film. Guess what happens when those oil passages get clogged.

Yes, 3 k mile oil change intervals may be an overkill, and I do it only on vehicles that take only about 4 quarts of oil. On my Mercedes diesel I do it every 5 k miles because it takes 8 quarts.

But frequent oil changes work for me. It is a cheap insurance.

I think it's pretty sweet when people keep vehicles that long and make them last. There is a guy who drives for our company with a safari van with almost 500,000 on it and uses it as his cargo/skid hauler, daily driver, and trailer hauler and runs it to hell without a hiccup and I knew another guy a ways back with 88 silverado with 800,000

d**n, that Ford has a lot of miles. I had an 2003 Suburban with 130,000 miles and I did regular maintenance on it and it was running like new. All you need to do is take care of your car and it will last you a long time.
